What a load of absolute crap this foolish idiotic remark is. If the greenies weren't such weenies we would have adequate well-drilling facilities on land and would not have to go to such extreme measures in the first place. You people on the left make me want to puke. And learn how to freaking spell corporation.

If the Prince William Sound is "doing fine" and has "more fish and wildlife than in memory", how do you care to explain the fact that the herring have never recovered from the spill?

    http://www.evostc.state.ak.us/recove...an_fishing.cfm

Yes, it's true, pink and sockeye salmon stocks are recovering, however Herring have not. I don't have data for groundfish or shellfish for the region, so I won't speak to that.

To characterize the Sound as "doing fine" requires a level of blind corporate servitude that I'm frankly surprised to see coming from Homer. The last time I was there all I saw hippies, shouldn't you guys be pro-earth or something?

Your link has nothing to do with anything. Try talking to a good fisher to learn about a fishery. You'll never get it from a biologist's out-of-date and out-of-touch perspective. "yes, it's true..." - stop trying to present an opinion you are not qualified to put forth. This is my backyard you are talking about. I have spent a cumulative five years on the water in PWS and you are going to Google some silly report to refute me?

There have been HUGE returns of herring the last two years...and huge numbers of humpbacks eating them. The cycle goes on, there will be a couple more good year-classes of herring, the biologists will declare the run "back" and the whales will have decimated all year-classes at the same time the commercial fishers are allowed a crack at 'em. It will be deemed the fishermen's fault. The spill DID damage the herring but they have recovered so well that the overpopulation of humpbacks that cleaned out the Point Adams capelin bloom will have also cleaned out the PWS herring bloom. If you are an astute tree-hugger, lobby for whaling.
If all you saw were hippies in Homer, then you hang out at coffee shops - try the real world for a change.
Corporations (not so much BP, but Exxon, for sure) are owned by people you know. The last time I was in Juneau, all I saw was government (my) employees - get back to work and quit trying to Google a little appearance of knowledge on my tax dollar.

Hoyt, you have no idea how I feel for your backyard. The miles of intertidal zone in Louisiana with the spawn of everything from shrimp to drum will be decimated for decades. If it gets in the coral of the keys, almost the same. All I can do is empathize and try to encourage our fishers to bring the best possible product to market that they can so that you can have some semblance of fresh seafood to eat. Entire lives will be destroyed there and we need to make sure that those fishers and people in tourism are remunerated by BP. $75 million, or whatever is going to need to have AT LEAST a zero added to it.

My point is: mobilize what assets? What assets are available for this situation that aren't already being used or on their way?

"Commandeering assets?" Right. Obamaphobes would have a field day with that one....they'd go happily berserk, claiming all their dire warnings about Obama were coming true.

Then they'd accuse him of letting the oil spill happen, or of letting it get bad, so he'd have an excuse to expand the power of big government and take our freedoms away from us. You know..."never waste a good crisis, even if you have to invent one.":D

Which ones are coming true, Hoyt? I remember quite a few dire warnings after Obama got elected, and even before.

Has he organized Brown Shirt Brigades, that are armed better than the military? Are government thugs going door-to-door collecting our guns? Have we fled from Afghanistan with our tail between our legs? Has he dismantled our military?

Here's a list a list a blogger posted in 2008, warning us of what would happen if Obama won the election. How many of them have come true?

1). Strict new gun laws will be enacted even though he promised he would not.

2).The phrase “In God We Trust” will be removed from all currency.

3). He will back away from his pledge to Israel and leave them to the wolves of Islam.

4). Hillary Clinton will be named to the Supreme Court.

5). Tax rates will return to their highest levels in 30 years.

6).The capital gains tax will be at least double current levels.

7). Retired Army General Wesley Clark will be named Secretary of Defense.

8).The borders will be ‘basically open’ to all comers; especially those from the Middle East and South America .

9). Amnesty will be granted to all illegals now in the U.S regardless of status, even gang members (MS-13).and

10).The war in Iraq will be brought to an abrupt end, and the results will be tragic, and the consequences to our military will be devastating.

He's 0 for 10 so far. Seems to me the people in the dire warnings field haven't been doing so well lately....:p

Damned near everything Glenn Beck said, however, has been spot-on.

Russian scientist predicting 1/2 USA wiped out by spill.

But they are always saying things like that.

    http://www.eutimes.net/2010/05/toxic-oil-spill-rains-warned-could-destroy-north-america/

Other saying benzene is the problem, and that secret plans are being drawn for massive evacuations from Florida.

Then you got these two saying the latest Top Kill has nothing to do with the real leak, which they figure is 5 miles away.
    http://www.theprogressivemind.info/?p=39324
These two also say BP needs to get super-tanker, or any tanker, on the scene and pipes can be lowered to at least suck-up most of the oil from near the leak and then separated from water in the tanker.

Seems like BP is sort taking this all "one set at a time". I rather they send out a call for other teams from places like Norway, so if what they do fails it wont be another couple weeks for them to plan their next move.

I'm sorry, but you must be living in an alternate universe. In this one, damned near everything Glenn Beck says turns out to be hysterical nonsense. Of course, he pumps his irrational, paranoid bs out so fast it's hard for reality to keep up.

Why am I not surprised to find out you're a Glenn Beck fan, Mark? I guess Rush Limbaugh simply wasn't doing the job for you anymore. You needed something stronger to set off those old pleasure synapses....

Well, I seriously doubt that secret plans are being drawn up and put into play for massive evacuations from Florida. Kind of hard to keep that sort of planning secret, when you realize how many state and local officials and employees would have to be in the loop.

Explain why you actually believe BP is concentrating its efforts on a top kill solution five miles away from the 'real' leak. What would be the point? That's kind of like the old joke about the drunk looking for his keys across the street from where he dropped them, because 'the light's better over here.'

BP already has a tanker on the scene, sucking up what it can. There are serious limits to what can be accomplished that way.

Nor do I believe BP is taking the situation only one possible cure at a time. Common sense would say that while they're trying one thing, they're planning out what to do next if that one doesn't work.

I know nothing about crude oil, but I was surprised that we couldn't do more sucking the oil from the water. Scenes like this [IMG] (form the story about idle tankers when there was a glut of oil in the market a year ago) showing that kind of density of "human ingenuity" on the water makes one think we are a lot bigger compared to mother nature than I guess we are.

Is the problem that it's far too distributed by the time it comes to the surface to suck off the surface, or is the problem that crude oil is much too slow to separate from water? Or not many available ships to do this kind of thing?

Troy, I love you, man, but I think you need to go up on your hat size a little bit. It is squeezing too hard and probably leaves a mark when you remove it. Everything GB says is documented for accuracy.

PS. I ain't leaving Florida until I am carried out room temperature! No GD'mned
tyrant makes me leave any other way.

    Really? "Documented for accuracy"?

He said that no other President had never been sworn into office without a Bible. John Quincy Adams used a law book. Franklin Pierce didn't even swear. He affirmed. Teddy Roosevelt used no Bible. Several Presidents kissed a Bible but did not swear on one.

He said that $1.4 million of stimulus money was used to repair a door at Dyess AFB. The doors repaired were aircraft hangar doors, and the cost was not $1.4 million. The cost was $246,000 out of $1.4 million in repair funding.

He said that the US was the ONLY country that had a natural birthright provision (where simply born in the country makes one a citizen). Thirty two other countries do, including Canada.

So on and so forth....and of course, there's his blathering about Obama's "un-American" name, and his claims that Obama is going to push through reparations for slavery.
