Hi Richard, acabo de leer el material que nos has facilitado. Conocíamos parte pero, no todo. Cada cosa nueva es muy gratificante. Te esperamos el viernes. Un saludo,

no but my pal was looking after her then, one JohnFrancis his brother in law
I will try track him down. Tom retired out to a farm near me , raising deer at an old age
He was so full of life, in his 70,s he could helm all day, could not get him of fthe wheel
one Sunday we were sailing off Long Bay, he and I were yapping he was at helm he said" Stu about here we ran aground, next thing we DID exactly that
Ah olden days Bucc was the biggest thing in NZ in those days, but when I was on her, she was past her best, the main was stuffed etc, we had only one opponat, Bernie Schimt on Innismara
But oh the drunken nights in Mansion House bay Kawau

Have you got the original feature about the boat in New Zealand Sea Spray magazine? It's about five pages long and describes the conception and thinking behind the design. She's also featured in John Guzzwell's book on timber boatbuilding.

I have photocopies of the article and a copy of the book. It looks like being too rainy to do any work on my own Spencer this weekend so I should be able to scan them for you.

I hope you're going to treasure the old girl; I did a 1080 mile Sydney-Noumea on her when I was a kid. On the first night we hit 25.7 knots with three of us on the wheel; me on one side, Lawson Abbot (an Admiral's Cup sailor and skiff champ) on the other, and Freddy Thomas (a Hobart veteran who had broken the Hobart record three times) in the middle. Then the main went, the wind died, and that was the end of the speed for us.

Have you been in contact with the Ragtime team? Chris Welsh, the owner, is a good guy and he'd know where you can contact some of his Sydney-Hobart crew (Simon etc) who have a lot of experience with Spencer boats.

Scan of Spencer's Buccaneer drawing that I had handy......note that all offsets and the master station curve are included on the drawing...simple and direct

Hi Concha - sorry but I couldn't get there today. I will be able to come up next week. In the meantime I photocopied the details from "century of sails" for you - I notice that the poster above has provided the lines plan and profile drawing that I have. When did the boat lose its wheel house ?

Bucc lived here in Long Beach, California for about 10 years around the early '80s.

She was to have been restored and raced in the Transpac by one of the orginal Cali owners of Ragtime (Infidel). The project stalled and it never happened, and evantually the boat disappearded from her slip, I guess to some new owner in Europe.

    I never saw it sail.

I like so much to read this cain of histories. We are working in the Bucc about 1 year and half. Some time we are extremly tired bud, then is she who push us to continue. From the star of our project, we feel this boat have a lot of thing to show us. And now the History continue...
