I have a bad case of flu and falling to pieces. I hate pills, chemicals and drugs and want a proven traditional cure that work. Can anyone help me in my misery:?:
If not, I am forced to visit the local witchdoctor - perhaps his mumbo jumbo and bones will give a better result that the GP's who are only interested in the health of one's wallet:(

    Poor chap.........

    Grandma´s recipes are:

    1. curd compress around your chest. Is anti inflammatory, cools and is decongestant. Put about one centimeter thick on a towel, wrap around chest. Shall stay there for 2-3 hrs.

    2. saltwater against blocked nose. use 9% saltwater to rinse your nose. Helps immediately!

    3. chicken broth (do´nt laugh, helps!)

    4. a footbath in 40°C water with some pine oil, 15 min. then to bed!

    All the best!

    Regards
    Richard

Take a bottle of rum, pour it all into a small glass, gently removing any overfills so that it does not spill. You will find after a few minutes that so much will want to overspill that you will be very busy drinking a lot.
This will continue until you finally realise that your nose is no longer blocked, you feel quite good or you have fallen asleep.....either way...who cares, the rum is soooo good.

Not too far away from a real working recipe Lubs.

One big glass of hot (not boiling) red wine, spiced while u heat up, with 3-4 cloves, some pieces of cinnamon bork and a pinch nutmeg, half a lemon (juice), 1/6 Gill of Rum, some sugar.

    Cheers

    Get better Wynand

Time and your immune system is the only cure. But the medicines will help you sleep. Something that makes you drowsy like codeine, and paracetamol keeps a temperature down and makes it a lot more bearable.

The time to visit the GP was when you were well to get a flu vaccine ! But do go promptly if you get a secondary bacterial infection.

Richards wine is enjoyed a lot here as a winter drink, we call it mulled wine and it's nice .

    Yaks,
Wynand, it sounds like you are suffering of mans flu. That's terrible! Even though benign for females, man flu nearly kills affected males every time they battle it. Luckily man are tough and usually survive, women can't understand what torture there male counterpart has to endure though.
Usually the tender care of a wife or mother is the best proven natural cure that works :)

Personally, I'm a fan of grog: rhum (enough of it), water, lemon and honey.

Note: I'm probably, myself, the biggest baby when sick and sure like to take advantage of those yukky times to whine and enjoy the extra attention from my hubby.

    Take care,
    Murielle

Tell that to my old lady...and she has the audacity to call men sissies re the flu.

Used some of the advice so keenly given and I am already feeling a bit better, but did not poke my nose out of the house yet

In younger years, I'd typically water ski in texas up until mid November. A few times I got the flu before the water skiing season was up. Not wanting to waste any of the season I went anyway, expecting to pay a heavy price in terms of health. Surprisingly, i found that water skiing in cold weather seems to cure the flu. A few of my friends tested this and found the same results.

Yep, sometimes a good swim clears up the sinuses, especially in nice clean salt water....I would recommend a few weeks in Fiji at the north eastern resorts......plenty of sunshine and water temp of about 25 degrees........

Substitute honey for sugar. Alternate wine with spicy chicken soup.
