Not irrelevant - just corrupt and overcompensated. Right now, I side with the businesses. If some ******* wants to send his workers down an unsafe shaft, I side with the union guys. What's “[W]e prefer to use the power of persuasion, but if that doesn’t work we use the persuasion of power.” thug, Andy Stern doing in the White House more than any other non-government employee/appointee? Why does Obama selectively block access to guest list when Stern and other anti-Americans visit too much?
Read Michelle Malkin in Culture of Corruption, “Chapter 7: SEIU – Look for the union label” Culture of Corruption.
This president of the Service Employees International Union, has told colleagues he plans to step down and Stern's departure (SEIU) is the best thing to happen to the ranks of unions in years. Now, if union thugs will just stop beating and intimidating "Town Hall" opponents to politicians, pressuring members to vote for "their" candidate, and be willing to take a reduction in benefits packages so that we can keep a few jobs here in America...
A few pic examples. Most of the derogatory stuff about unions has recently been removed from Google search engine...how far will THIS go?

I'm actually kind of in the mood to discuss my constitutional rights with the SEIU boys that stomped Kenneth Gladney.

sorry to have to mention it Troy but if 3 out of 10 coal miners are union and if ~28% of the injuries are of union members then the safety of these guys is perfectly in parallel with there % of the population, or nearly so

deaths are nearly the same and given the low totals could be a statistical anomaly based on the short duration of the study. 2 years does no a complete record make

one modern companies unethical treatment of its workers does not stack up to the statistics you are offering. Its a simple mater of obvious corruption at the enforcement level and unethical actions that should have been effectively prosecuted but weren't most likely because of the rampant corruption in politics/gov.

had your numbers stacked up a bit better then maybe you might have had a point about unions making a difference and saving lives but given the numbers you presented it seems obvious that the union made little to exactly no difference

other than maybe create a whole new arena of graft and corruption that needed to be paid for by the unsuspecting consumers

    Wally
there is a time and a place when all good people must stand up and fight, to actually do something, to say no more and enough is enough. Some folks might be willing to put up with our illustrious leaders screwing us to tears but the simple reality is that once enough people get pissed off enough then and only then will you see meaningful change. Revolution is on the way folks and you can either lay down like sheep or stand up and do something

always divides the men from the boys when some fool takes that first swing and the rest either stand up or lay down. What has always surprised me is its the folks you often least expect to show some balls who stand up first and the tough guys who suddenly bail out.

I say revolution is way overdue and the pissed off masses are just waiting for that one charismatic leader who can bring all the factions of the pissed off party together for that last march on Washington

the jack asses in charge are terrified of this and have made laws labeling anyone fighting for there homes and way of life a terrorist. Happened to my people and now its happening to yours, interesting to see who is willing to stand up and do anything about it if you ask me.

    so I ask you
did Americans succeed in warfare because there were just more of em and had the equipment or do you folks actually have the balls to take on your own gov. Im talking about walking to Washington, into the halls of injustice, grabbing the shysters by there scrawny little throats and throwing them into prison were they belong

    there is a simple solution
    its called a clean slate
and it doesn't take any level of genius to realize how badly its needed

    ps
    Rag Limbaugh is an idiot
another hypocrite if you ask me
always mouthing off about drugs for instance
turns out he is a drug addict
all mouth and no substance just like the rest of them

OK, you managed to find one example -- assuming the incident was as one-sided as you claim. Now go find me another example where it was SEIC doing most of the yelling, instead of tea baggers screaming at their elected representatives.

Then look at the signs some of the Tea Baggers have carried in demonstrations. How many U-tube links are there showing Tea Party demonstrators acting like complete *********, and calling people names? How many people yelled "******' at John Lewis outside the Capitol last March 20th (and "******" at Barney Frank? Can you explain to me what either epithet has to do with health care?

And when a union is trying to protect the pay, benefits and job security of its members, along with its right to recruit and organize, that isn't a union asking for tax gimmes. That's a union focused on its core mission.

Asking for an honest day's pay for an honest day's work is hardly the same thing as demanding freebies. Decent medical benefits at a decent price are part of that pay, as long as this country insists on channeling access to health care through employers.

That's like saying the people who yelled '******' at John Lewis weren't lying either, because he's really black.

These are the people you like to think of as real Americans, Mark? You can keep 'em away from me and out of California, and over where you live. Because I think of them as racist, homophobic, xenophobic scumbags who are a disgrace to democracy, our right of free speech and this country.

And getting back to my original point: I'm supposed to believe people who revel in this sort of ignorant crap are somehow more open-minded than I am, and better qualified to judge the merits of AGW? I don't think so.

    Wow Troy,
I really hit a nerve. You bring up Limbaugh's SEIU thug comments without apparently having any idea what they refer to. The Gladney incident is the posterchild event for illustrationing SEIU tactics and hypocrisy.

Of course the core mission of a union is to extract the highest possible price for the maximum amount of it's member's services under the most pleasant of conditions. But to say that public sector unions aren't asking for gimmes from the tax payers is absurd. To equate it with the labor movement activities of coal miners is intellectually dishonest and fairly offensive.

Equally absurd is your claim that anyone called Lewis a ****** when he and his posse deliberately taunted the crowd on 3/20. They were fishing for an incident to smear their political opponents with and failed miserably. There were only like a million recorders there including their own. The result? Nothing. There is a 100 grand bounty for authenticated video verifying the ****** incident. After a month, the result? Nothing. So what do you got? secret inside information?

What do these ephitats have to do with healthcare? Nothing, they're personal attacks. A bit hypocritical of you to fuss over Barney Frank being called a ***** when you smear the tea party people with a term of equating them with ******* suckling practices. It's a pity it's come to this but when you make wild claims you're gonna get called on it.

ya its kinda hard to defend the unions at this point. Yes at one point they were necessary but now they are a classic example of how power corrupts ( teamsters come to mind )

    union dues
all those entitlements plus pay must equal less than the value of the work performed or the employer goes broke
that or they have to up there prices to the point were no one can afford much anymore
    welcome to America
cause in case no one noticed things have gotten pretty bad around here and now instead of weening the economy off the phony money there is talk of a second stimulus bill
    perfect eh
more funny money for the kids to pay off somehow

sorry Troy but the whole concept of unions is outdated in the extreme

I've seen a lot of video of tea parties on the news and NEVER saw any of those signs. Bos, ditto on the unions--Osha sets safety rules throughout the US so the unions cannot claim they do.

No, the Gladney incident is not the 'poster child for SEIU tactics and hypocrisy.' It was an aberration. On the other hand, tea baggers showing up at town hall meetings last year purely to harass their elected representatives, instead of to ask honest questions and listen to the answers, were the norm.

What I have is widely disseminated public news about a public incident, verified by multiple people. Your story is that if no one got a recording or a video of the idiots yelling ****** and ****** at Lewis and Frank, it didn't happen? Every single elected representative who was involved or witnessed it is lying? That's pretty lame, even by your standards. It shows how disconnected from reality you are.

On the other hand, there are plenty of videos and photographs showing the racist, xenophobic and plain hateful signs carried by tea baggers during demonstrations. I just gave you a link to a compilation of a bunch of them. Are you going to claim they didn't happen either?

Or are you going to do a Rush Limbaugh, and claim the people holding them were all liberal ringers, trying to make the 'movement' (such as it is) look bad? That's pretty lame, too.

And getting back to the SEIU: your ignorance and bias is showing again, when you carry on like it's composed mostly of public sector employees sucking at a government teat. The truth is that it covers over 100 different occupations, and the largest part of it by far is composed of healthcare workers. Many of the rest are janitors, security guards and food service workers.

Yes, they actually work for a living. And yes, I'll compare them to anyone who works for a living -- work is worthy of respect, whether it's for a coal mining company, a hospital, or a janitorial service. It's offensive of you to carry on like they're somehow an undeserving part of the workforce.

Look again. Are you trying to claim the signs in this compilation aren't real? That someone somewhere is somehow forging all those pictures and sending them out?

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/16/10-most-offensive-tea-par_n_187554.html

And please don't whine about me linking you to a 'liberal' website. I guarantee no one at a 'conservative' website is going to post the pictures....

You're right; the unions don't officially 'set' safety standards throughout the US. But they're almost always the driving force that pushes slack agencies and inspectors into action. Union members are the ones who usually bring violations and poor practices to light, because they're less likely to face being fired by a vengeful employer for doing so.

Now -- if everyone is done beating up on California and unions, you can get back to carrying on about global warming and climate change.

I wasn't the one who originally brought up either subject, by the way. But it's expecting too much, to expect that sort of nonsense to go unchallenged.

Nor was I was the one who first started carrying on about how wonderful and all-American (or not) the Tea Party 'movement' is....

Stop calling us tea baggers. They are a different group. Don't believe everything you read. Many of the signs are brought in by lefty operatives trying to smear the Tea Party assembly. My co-workers father was beat to a pulp because he would not join a union which he knew had Marxist leanings.
