thanks guys. This race that i am talking about is a 120nm race the fastest time is held by 100ft cainting keeler Alfa Remao. I am going for the smallest entry. After talking to some boat builders im goner scrap the Trailer sailor idea and get a 18footer rig and build a little 18ft ply boat with hiking wings to get crew wieght out futher, cause on a boat that small crew wieght is every thing. I sail on a 30ft cainting keeler and its 3.1m wide at the start it got po poed and another 30ft cainting keeler was built it was much narower. now they have changed and put wings on.

Heres an 18' sportboat that uses a wide hull at the deck to make up for no wings. Using racks/wings, a canting keel and foils to one degree or another can turbo the hell out of a boat-if any or all of these are legal. Is an 18 footer legal in the coastal classic? If foils are LEGAL-I'd sure consider "foil assist" like DSS and other variations. This is the up and coming way to make fast boats faster.
Keep your eye on this thread: http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/sailboats/hugh-welbournss-dss-25-a-32138.html and the Brace,Brace, Brace thread on Sailing anarchy under sportboats-uses a foil to increase RM about the same amount as a canting keel. See pix below.

Stop pissing around with trying to hot up 5.5m old trailer sailer designs -THIS is the boat you desire and require ... the Cox's Bay Skimmer. Tongue in cheek, chaps.

If you don't want to put your bow pole for the ASO through the hull you might want to do something like I did. Build a couple of pole chocks, slide in a carbon pole, and use a 3:1 purchase to hold the pole out. When you're not using the kite release the pole-out line and slide the pole all the way in.

This keeps the interior dry. Even internal poles with gaskets leak a bit when you're really blasting.

You could just find an old high volume 18fter hull and throw a carbon rig and a baby bulb on it, what self righting requirement does it have to meet?

im goner be looking at a mini 6.50 hull shap but only about 2meters wide with1.5m wings oneach side. im also looking at carring about 32m2 up wind and a 61-73m2 big gennaker and a 41m2 small gennaker.im also planning to carry a 120kg keel and 4-5 men onthe rail

Maybe not so tongue in cheek. Use an old 18 footer rig, maybe some wings, a bit of a bulb, and a cuddy big enough to hold the cooler and sandwich box and a 120 mile race might not be too bad.

People here in SoCal have shadowed the famous Ensenada race almost every year (also 120 miles) in beach cats.

Five people on an 18 foot boat seems a lot. If the race is mostly downwind I would think you would sprint it with 3, or 4 at the most.

A fixie? Makes docking a bit of an issue.

Your idea of a 73sqm kite sounds rather big. That's 50% bigger than a Melges 24 kite. Bigger isn't always better on these things.

Unfortunately, the website says that the minimum LOA is 6.5m.
