    Hey Spearaddict,
This is VERY cool!!! Thanks for the link. This is a whole new industry waiting to happen. Can you imagine if every rooftop had a mere 1 square meter of photovoltaics attached? The only question about which I worry is what to do with all of the arsenic when they get old and need to be thrown out and replaced.
    Many Thanks!

I sense a bit of sarcasm... Anywho, it was intended for fasteddy after he said solar isnt an option.
Heres answer that will make you conspiracy theorists happy- When we have to decide what to do with all the arsenic, we will just put it in the water supply to keep population levels down. Killing two birds with one stone, or a couple thousand people..er.
I dunno what they are gonna do with the arsenic, i do know that arsenic is not nearly as toxic as spent nuclear fuel rods, so they can probably put it somewhere like New Jersey, which is already a toxic waste dump to begin with.

You you admit you are not for the environment but for control and elimination of those who do not think as you do! NO BIG SURPRISE! Out of your own keyboard you have admitted you are a tyrannical homocidal hypocrit who would kill anything.

Well if you say so I guess I am! You got me! It is right there in quotations! I guess there is nothing left for me to do but go start my homicidal rampage through Florida in the name of the environment....

While I am at it do you want me to ask the Roswell aliens anything? How about bigfoot? I see a lot of these characters in Cuckoo Conspiracy Land.

Any way you slice it there is a huge advantage and huge potential to conservation of energy, advantage to everyone except the oil gas and coal companies ( who call the shots)
One person per car is insanity . Infinite economic and population growth on a finite planet is insanity.
My brother and his friends were looking into a solar pool heater costing thousands of dollars. I asked him why so much . He said it was the cost of all the elbows and fittings. I asked him ' Why not eliminate all the fittings. just put a big spiral coil of black poly tubing on the roof and pump the pool water thru that." They did that, and when they went away for a weekend and forgot to turn the pump off it got almost hot enough to make tea. The propane heater hasn't turned on in years. It was extremely cheap.
We need a bit more imagination to drastically reduce the cost of heating and energy alternatives sold by the snake oil salesmen of the alternative energy industry.
Madagascar, Haiti etc are burning down their forests, causing major problems and loss of life, for cooking fuels, while the internet is full of info on extremely cheap , do it yourself solar cookers, and energy alternatives. Global warming or no global warming, there is much to be gained in improving the lives of people by looking into and actively educating people of alternatives. .

....well there you have it....so true mate...just how much has been wasted on conferences and social meetings etc etc that CANNOT change anything, it is a changing environment, so lets just accept this and educate people how to make it all more sustainable instead of arguing some fine technical point while Rome burns...

And way back a few pages ago Al Gore and the internet was mentioned. So I found this quote by Vint Cerf, largely regarded as the Father of the Internet:

Here is the cost breakdown of fuel generation, my numbers were correct.
    http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/inf02.html

I never said solar would not work, I said it will never be a primary supplier to replace what we have now in an inexpensive manner. Electricity does not store well and batteries are expensive, take up space and are an environmental issue all by themselves.

Wind power requires to much land area to be feasible as a primary supplier and it to expensive and uses up too many resources to construct an inefficient generator.

If you live on top of a geyser, go for it, geo-thermal is for you.

I would have no problem with a per barrel tax on imported oil to be used for research into cold fusion, and HTE hydrogen extraction as long as the money was sequestered and not used for more subsidies on other so called green alternatives. But we have fission power at hand in workable plants and the best and safest reactor designs ever. Until cold fusion comes on line new generating plants should be nuclear.

I reject totally the argument of zero growth economics. Such a plan can only work at the point of a gun.

I think the point of the toxic components of millions of worn out PV panels is valid, but I don't think even the most radical greenie wants to kill us off, but wait a minute, let me think about that - lol!

As far as Babcock ranch is concerned, look at the numbers. 400 acres of PV panels to supply a city of 19,500 with daytime electricity only. Conventional power will still be needed at night. You left that part out. I couldn't find a kwh cost either. I'll bet it is a lot more than 3-5 cents per kw. So lets see, all we have to do to build a similiar plant here in my home town is confiscate 1,200 acres of land and we will have daytime solar electricity. Great plan.

The Al Qaeda crack is more worthy of others than you Spear, and way off base as the bulk of our oil no longer comes from the middle east and the fact that middle eastern oil does not fund Al Qaeda, opium and heroin sales do.

It will be hard to get black plastic tubing without petroleum.

What I left out of the previous post was the issue of heat. At 3-5 cents per kwh nuclear generatied electricity is more attractive than oil or gas heat at the current cost of home heating oil. It is also less expensive to retro current homes to electric boilers or forced air systems. At an average of 800 gallons per year in the temperate areas of the frost belt and 1200 gallons or more in the northern reaches, the reductions in greenhouse gases would be huge, and actually attainable without tax schemes or draconian changes in lifestyle. Do the math, remove 30 million home from oil heat and how much less dirt is thrown into the air in the form of real pollutants like HC, CO, and NOX. As nuclear plants emit only steam, their greenhouse belch is virtually zero.

Now if you really want to get clever about solar, you would want to support the development of solar concentrators to power HTE hydrogen production. The hydrogen could be used to power water heaters, supplement heat in rural areas and power autos and light trucks with a high btu, low emissions fuel. Plus with hydrogen you have 24 hour a day power if you choose to use it for home electricity as you can store hydrogen.

Using it for solar heat is light years more environmentaly sustainable than burning it.
Mmy mainsail was bought used in 1980 .I have made 6 trips across the pacific and 9 to the Charlottes and back with it. It is a petrolem product . Took a couple of gallons of oil to make it . How many miles per gallon does that work out to?
Mother nature doesn't give a rats *** if you are uncomfortable with zero economic growth. It still remains unsustainable. The consequences of infinite growth are a lot less comfortable.

    Solutions:
Kill people, the more the merrier. Banning DDT ws a smart move that achieved just that. Next we should ban infant's formula since everyone knows that lactating is best particularly if you live in a straw bale house. (Oh so sustainalbe and harvested by a diesel harvester)
In this way millions of thrid world kids will die. There is another smart move.

Wars are another good way but impopular. My father use to say that war was good yet uncomfortable. Green"peace" surely will come up with a way to mass chemical castration by spraying it from the air.

Cars...ban cars for everyone but for the party members. Good idea. Tax them off the road. of course in order to do that you will have to change the constitution and give the governemt power over private property and personal liberties. I am sure a thrifle in your view. All to save mother earth and green marijuana. Private property means little right?

Educate the ignorants, yet keep them poor and technologicaly in the 1800 and ban all development. Now that is a novel idea!
Yes, all the environemtal problems are the fault of the individual who is so ignorant and does not understand. It is so much better to go on a bicicle to the park than in a car jammed in traffic to work right? How ignorants people who buy "environemtally unfrendly" houses, and go to hot concrete buildings with aircondition, to work in those nasty corporations who warm the planet. It is so much better to bludge at other people's expenses and tell them they are ignorants at the same time.

Look at me, I don't work, live off your taxes, by the way I dontvaccinate my kids because you all do so I can get away with it, I get to go overseas to protest against the oil companies in a jet.... powered by.... well oil, what do you expect me to row?
And I could go on for hours. YOUR POST STINKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

    Oh how much ********!!!
