    My name is Jan Eliasson 39 years.

    From May 2006 until a few weeks ago, I worked as a production processor and production planner at Bergen Group Landskrona AB.
    The work at the yard consisted of drawings based on divide and plan details for various workstations. It was about machine burning, sheets and tiles, profile production, frame bending, rolling, knuckling, and various assembly stations.
    We worked mostly with the help of Autodesk ACLT2009, CAD / CAM Procut, materials and production control system (MPS) MultiPlus and Jeeves. Microsoft Office is of course also a given tool.

    I have also worked on the yard before. During the period January 1996 - December 2002, established under the name Bruce Shipyard AB and later as Landskrona shipyard AB.

    I started my career in Marine Framebendingstation at Bruces Shipyard AB 1996. As my supervisor noted, work very well. Since shortly after, they wanted to move me to get to the burning of the NC-controlled machines. Then even that worked well was my task to be a bit of an on-call "Stand In" Where I had to replace any of the cases and sick leave at various workstations. After a couple of years as a "stand in" I had jump-start the learning process on hull construction, because my work in every occasion arise, the work gave me a very good overview of the whole current production of hull.

    It seems that the company estimated that I am very easily learned, curious and engaged. When they chose to inter-train me to measurement technique for two upcoming projects at Tangen Verft AS. The task consisted of measuring and documenting the projects with isometric drawings, documentation of the entirety of the projects.

    A year passed and now it was time again for internal education. And this time as a supervisor. They gave me an education in AF sifus "basic supervisors". Even an advanced course was served to me just a year later, then I worked as a supervisor until they hired me as a production planner. What was my last task in the yard now, before the economic crisis did made us unhired.

    Although 3D modeling in Sketchup, I have used to make simpler designs and accessories. This was not part of my normal routine, but after I've used SketchUp in my hobby (design, drawing, design and build small boats.) It happened to a couple of times that I modeled such as our drawers and modellers failed and then I used Sketchup.
    How to design in AutoCAD and 3dmodelling is something close to my heart and this along with my curiosity has helped me to become very good at using these tools.

    Because of that I have much enjoyed my last job, I seek a similar job.

    Also I will put up a reference list of photos in a while. I will find my photos. As I have not used them for ages I have to find them in my old pc.
    As I do have experience of about 10 ships between 3300-12000 tonnage.

    You have a lot of special experience that not many people have - and it looks like you want to continue tio use it. Building ships is not easy - and very few people have REALLY done it.

    If you wanted, you could "jump the fence" and become a supervisor on the owner (not shipbuilder) side of the business. You know the process, what is important and what is not - and you could assist an owner supervision team to get good quality in a shipyard without causing too much disruption to the shipyard process (like lots of stupid supervisors can do).

    There are more jobs now for Europeans on the owner side of the business than there are for the building side of business (as I am sure you know).

    Anyway, I just thought I should mention this option to you. If you want to stay on the design/build side, then I respect your wishes.

    Of course I am interested, as it is the boats and everything regarding the boats and ships I am interested in.

    Maybe you do have any suggestion where I can find this owners?
    Else I will go out by google immediately.

    You where so right Jr MacGregor!

    I did google for this opportunities. I am not sure if you did read my cv.

    Actually I am not sure how much experience and education I have to have to be attractive in this jobs.

    Off course I will give this a try. As it seem you are very right! There is a lot of jobs in the owners side of the bussines.

    If this was some kind of an offer you gave tome Mac Gregor then "Shoot". As my eyes is wide open for now on!

    That WAS a sound advice!

    You will find owners only through the brokers and involved NA´s. The NA´s usually have their own surveyors / supervisors.

    The brokers are easier to contact.

    Look at the "Boat International" magazine, there you find them all.

    Some names:

    This seems to be worth giving a shoot.

    And also nothing says I am not able to search a job in both camps.

    Feels like the chances have suddenly doubled up.

    And also I do suddenly have a whole camp to take a closer look at, that I havent thought about at all. I do know for now what chores is in my calendar for this week.

    I used to work in a shipyard and now work as owner project manager for building ships, and have hired people like yourself to work in my teams. But my last project is coming to an end so I have no jobs to offer. All I can offer is advice.

    I guess there are three target groups of "owner projects" you could go for;
    1) yachts and smaller craft
    2) conventional merchant ships including cruise ships
    3) offshore vessels

    In all 3 you have to be prepared to travel a lot and spend a lot of time away from home. That is one big difference to working all the time in "your own" shipyard. And most of the yards are now in the Far East.

    I dont know too much about the category 1) business, or how much work there is at present - but people like Apex1 do. I believe there are some boats of that type being built in North Germany. Apex1 mentioned the names of some of the brokers involved. Also involved are some project management or design consultants who try to co-ordinate the project for the owner, and hire steelwork supervisors. Some of these yachts now are really ships and not simple projects. One UK consultant who does such supervision is Burness Corlett and Partners. They have a website.

    For category 2) and 3) there are still many shipowners in your neighbour Norway. Two years ago they were doing many projects in yards around the world - less now. DOF, Solstad, Havila, Siem, Eidisvik, REM, Bourbon and several others are doing many offshore support vessel projects in the c. 100m range.

    Stena in Goteborg are still building large ships (ferries, drillships, tankers) all around the world.

    Maersk (AP Moller) in Kobenhaven is a mega shipping empire building ships all over the world. if you got a chance there it would be a very good start (they have very professional standards).

    RCCL will need supervisors to work in their teams who are placed at STX Finland for building these mega cruise ships.

    Technip UK will need supervisors (not many) for some of the work done at their Rauma yard in Finland.

    Do STX Europe (previously Aker) need help supervising work in their yards in Romania and Brazil ?

    Maybe Jotun (Norway) and Hempel (Denmark) need paint inspectors for projects around the world. This is not very exciting, but is a start.

    There are websites in the UK where maritime jobs like this are advertised. I am not sure about other countries. Some names (just google for them);
    - faststream
    - matchtech

    Also - Nukisen - I had a quick look at your CV. My advice would be to make it more impersonal (less/zero about your private interests). Keep in the info about your age, family status, languages (very good) and IT skills.

    Also, less detail about the work experience - and more about the "headlines". The info in your forum post is a better starting point for the CV than is the CV. If you like I can edit your CV for you and make it look a bit more like the agents expect to see. You can send me a PM. But I dont check thsi website every day.

    Mention the NAMES of the ships and owners that you worked on - that will be recognisable to "outsiders". I knew Bruces when they did hulls for the Fosen yard near Trondheim Norway.

    I havn´t seen very much inside your profile so I am not very sure of who you actually are. :eek: Maybe I should because it seems you are damn very very conversant regarding shipbuilding. :idea: And I think not many ordinary people sitting with this knowledge without having it as his profession.

    Of course I have heard about MacGregor koncern. But I would be very surpriced if you are the man behind.:eek:

    If this proposals don´t help I have learned a lot more then i did before.
    So of course it helps.

    Also about the Norwegian proposal I am using finn.no .
    And I will also look at the suggested sites in GB.

    I felt very good about the constructive criticism you gave me about my CV.

    Hehe maybe I have used to much time in this forum and should used some more time regarding my cv.

    Bruces and Landskronavarvet is just a name shift caused by the bancruptcy Bruces did in 2002. After we did build the hull to "THE WORLD"

    Now it does feel like my story teller has rewrite the end of my story.
    Maybe there will be a happy ending in this one.
    Some of you kind people in here helped me to get new opportunities to actually get a nice job and work with big boats again.

    So for now it is up to me and I will start at once!

    So with a very good CV Macgregor helped me to write.
    Also with all advices and ceative criticism It feels like I have a very good skill to do what I want.
    And also the very good advices from Apex1.
    It does feel that I now have very high level tools in my pocket.
    Of course I will tell how it is going.
