Boston, a nice summary and one with which I must concur, so that makes at least 2 enlightened readers:D:D:D:D (my view - on a very superficial overview, is the deniers - 'coldies' - have been looking at changes in LAND temperatures and crying cold whereas the oceans are showing a warming trend and everyone knows that the oceans drive weather and the deniers are experiencing the consequences of warming oceans producing some seasonal weather changes).... and yes find a pleasant retreat away from the maddening crowd and enjoy the show - most likely a sad little fiz as from a wet "sparkler", if that.... - says he popping another locally grown strawberry, a bit of cream cake and think of champagne as I sip an iced coffee:D:D:D

When we convert to bio for cars ( replacing petrol) how can there be enough bio supply to supply diesel ( MGO ) and all the IFO consumed in shipping and 3rd world powerplants etc.

    basically
    no
there is not the production capability nor the farmland available to produce biodiesel without significantly impacting on the cost and availability of food
biodiesel works on a small scale only essentially because it requires some kind of crop to squeeze it from

    celulitic alcohol doesn't
has a significantly higher yield per lb transported
requires less energy to distill and produces the same general form of liquid fuel
    but
it only has 2/3 the BTU of gas
although it does run a lot cooler
    and about 20 times cleaner
    and is carbon neutral

someone pointed out that the electrical grid cant handle any large number of electric cars
they hit that one on the nail head

    as I said earlier
    nothing is likely to change
time to get out the lawn chair mix another drink and watch the show

truth be told Mass you should be building an ice boat
    best

That report fails to call it 'shale oil' (majority of it), and fails to speak of the cost of its recovery. That formation has been know for many years, but very few have successfully extracted it from the info I have. The tar sands in Canada are a bit easier to mine than this shale, but even it makes a big environmental impact, and will ultimately raise in price significantly.

I'm still betting crude oil will reach $150 within a year, and go on beyond that. Be prepared!

I hope so as I'm sitting on a AHTS at the moment off hire like many others.
I wonder just how much oil the US has underground that is normal crude....
They seem very hesitant to drill in the US or they alrady have and are keeping silent?

There are a lot of VLCC's floating around that are full.
    Must be waiting for something

Well, since they're considering (and doing) to produce oil from shale (spelled correctly?) rock or tar sand layers, which is a pretty energy consumpion process (normally), that is some indication of what the cost for development of other available recourses in the same specter too.... A rice in price, will cause the VLCC's that are floating around (full) to be pure gold mines.... (so Powerabout is probably onto something there...)

Says something don't it? Easy access is limited. (nagnagnag, sorry...)

We're probably at (or close to) max consumption and have also probably passed the point where we have less left than what we've been taking out.

Oil recourses, deep sea, arctic areas, will have a price tag, in environmental issues and plain money, so we'd better get used to the habit of thinking about some alternatives...

But then, of course, we have Iraq, with some fields, old technology, and not fully mapped... Should be something left there....

It was reported over 6 months ago that these suppy ships were being purposefully slowed up so that the prices here in the USA could reach 'readjustment'. In other words don't oversuppy the market as that would only drive prices down.

Seems to have worked from looking at prices in the retail sector over the past 3 months.
