    Hi,

I'm new in this boat designer's world. I just look which software you are using. But, as a newbie, which software should I use?

I just want to design the boats, so what is for me?

    Thanks

On the Mac you can either use Boot Camp (or something like Parallels) plus XP to run a windows based package such as MaxSurf.

Or there is TouchCAD ( http://www.touchcad.com/tc3galmarine.html ) which may be all you need.

For non marine specific CAD you have more options with Vectorworks being very popular or my favourite, Ashlar graphite.

Unless you are looking for compatibility with other big yards, use what you like. You only have yourself to please!

People like John Corby ( http://web.me.com/jcboats/CorbyYachts/HOME.html ) have managed quite happily to design hundreds of boats on a Mac over the passed 20 years or so. I do use dual boot on my Mac to run MaxSurf / HydroMax / SPAN but all the detail drawings are native on the Macs.

I have a mac, and i run bootcamp (lets you install windows on a partition on your harddrive) or VIritual box (creates a file on your harddrive that is a viritual computers harddrive). both ways require a windows CD...
