I need some info re: How much fiber glass and resin basicly the product for a 40ft hull with a 18ft beem what to use and roughly how much to use has anyone got the table for this ???:!: Thanks Guy's

 

Your plans package will have a "Bill of Materials" list. This will provide the information you need in regard to how much and of what for the build. What are you building?

 

thanks for that I'll check it out I'm building or should i say getting ready to build 40ft center console for offshore fishing vessel would like it to be strong enough to drop on concreat witch i dont want to do but yeah you know what i mean

 

Don't be tempted to "over build" it. It may seem as though you are making things stronger, but more often then not, you're actually making it weaker, paying more for materials unnecessarily and over burdening the craft with excess weight, which you'll have to pay for as you power it. Unless you have considerable boat building experience or are willing to preform a structural evaluation, then select a stout design and build to the plans.

 

PAR is offering sage advice. A large high speed powerboat, such as the 40' center console you describe, will be subjected to a variety of large stresses in operations in calm seas, with very large force spikes in even moderately rough weather. Knowing where to reinforce the hull for maximum strength with minimum impact on performance is the essence of marine design and construction. For your project to succeed, it is critical to get the input of a successful designer experienced in offshore powerboats. As PAR said, a quality plans package will include plans showing where and how to reinforce the hull, a full bill of materials, and frequently a guide to construction that will cover the questions that will arise inevitably. i will be useing balsa core and ply for the bulkheads and foam for the engin berreas with staniless where i mount the motors I will be layinging it up with chopper gun its the easyest way i have just compleated the mould well near just a coppel of bits and pices have to be done but what i really need is how much corn matting and chopper glass and so on i will need for the hull

The questions you ask are not able to be answered properly without a lot more information and carefull consideration of many factors. Nobody is going to give you a carefully considered answer here online unfortunately. It just isn't that simple a problem.

If you don't have them already (and it sounds like you dont) I suggest that you have a set of plans drawn up by somebody qualified to do such work (NA). You would then end up with a structural design that fits the problem and your construction methods. It definitely won't be free, but it will be a small price in comparison to the remainder of your project.

For a GUESSTIMATE , figure the hukll skin will be 4lbs per sq ft. Chop is not at all strong so it needs to be thick to get stiff enough.

A chop boat will frequently end up 30% glass and 60%--70% resin .

Figure the boats SQ ft , the amount of materials and the price per pound.
