    Nostalgie...............Paul, not efficiency.;)
And for your project: I´m shure you know this software:

    http://www.steamtablesonline.com/steam97web.aspx
    and:
    https://analysis.nrel.gov/homer/

if so, it might help others here.

So, build a light 'glass sheathing over some foam, that looks like an old boiler and triple expansion engine, with a more efficient, much lighter and easier to live with engine inside. Who'd know. You'd vent through the stack, still could burn stuff for the boiler and burn yourself on steam. All the nostalgia you can want at a fraction of the weight.

Is it viable to build the flex rod from carbon tow?
Why do the cylinder look like it is copper, is it not more efficient if it is insulated?

Oh - I had missed that it is actually possible to buy plans and parts!
The plans page says 20-200psi for the 10hp engine... does it mean you need 200psi to receive 10hp?
edit: doh.. the answer was in a video... 10hp @ 125psi. I'll try to hold up the horses a bit before the next question.

That obviously is just a sample engine, handcrafted to proof it works.
I assume the flex rod to be a steel rope like in a elevator, but Paul can answer that question, I´ll ask.
The pressure of 200psi I reckon, is the peak level the engine can stand. Continous duty should be closer to 100 I´m shure.

But still very amazing to me that this small and light engine can give 10hp.. If the video is anything to go by, this is not at a very high rotation speed, even.

It looks like you are right.

I'll see if I can find out what is required to make a 10-15 bar boiler. I can weld steel. If you got any tips, please tell.

I should, look my avatar. But first I have to work a bit, to keep the oven running, so, maybe tonight.
