    Hi guys!

    Can somebody post some lines plane which I can practice to improve my skill of drawing lines planes in AutoCAD because it has been quite long time i did it.Also can anybody give me submarine lines plane because i have never seen it and i want to practice it also.

    thanx

    regards.

    no one can give u sub-marine lines plan ,, download academic version of maxsurf , open sample designs , and export lines plan to autocad then do ur practice.. i think u may also get a sub-marine design in the sample design folder. or u can also try with freeship .

    thanks

    Hi,

    thanx for the reply.I also asked about the ship lines plane.I just want to practice to improve my skill. Also is somewhere written rules about drawing the lines plane on AutoCAD or someother. what all things need to be done while drawing the ship lines plane.

    Thanx

    Regards.

    Rule 1. Don't use Autocad to draw linesplans.

    which software is better for working with the lines plane of ships.As students we are normally taught with AutoCAD for drawing ships lines plane?

    drawing lines in autocad is just to knw the process .. it has no professional value. when u have a offset table , and put it and make a hull in any software ( maxsurf , autoship , free!ship ,rhinoceros etc) it will not generate a fair line plan .. you need to make it a fair lines plane. in maxsurf if u want to make a hull ( not from given lines or offset ) u have to make a fair hull to get a faired lines plane, and that lines plane will be autocamtically generated by the software itself at ur desired level .
    i use rhino , maxsurf mainly. they are good for me.
    when u see faired lines in autocad ,, most of the time its sure its not done in autocad but imported from some other software.

    @ all;
    no way to neglect the importance of Autocad in hullform design or linesplan.

    If you have a offset table of an existing ship, then to draw the body lines is easiest and perfect in autocad. After making the bodyplan in autocad it will be very easy to model the hull in rhino.
    a newbie in lines plan should start with autocad.
    I have seen many good hull designers whos approach is to start the initial sketch of the hull with autocad. So its can not be a theory that: "one should not use autocad for lines plan".

    i am not neglicting autocad.. and i am also saying dat for a newbie to know the manual procedure, its good to learn in autocad first ..
    and if u really want to model the hull in rhino ,, then why u are not doing the bodyplane in rhino as well ? i think rhino is easy to work with Lines also , and in initial stage autocad is good as pavel mentioned.. but it has no professional value during detail design. because faired lines is very much important.. if u want to take dimension or print the lines ..autocad is good. (i am talking about only Lines)

    so learning autocad is initial or basic stage but when u go to do more u should learn some good software like rhino,maxsurf,autoship and Tribon or napa or nupas cadmatic.

    zeroname you are missing some points;
    Rhino doesnt have the spline like autocad. The curve you draw in Rhino is not true spline if you type the co ordinates of all points the curve will not pass through all points, so its not intelligent to suggest someone to draw lines curves in Rhino. Rhino is my most favourate Software so i am careful about its right use.
    In rhino many of the 2d drafting facilities, you will not get. When you have to make the lines of the body tangentially to the bottom, the freeform curve of rhino will not be as accurate in Autocad.
    "Autocad have not professional value in lines plan" its 100% wrong concept , as if you look around many Naval architects are includes Autocad in their lines plan construction for initial sketch. For example if some one trys to make a hull with a desired bilge radius, rake of keel etc Autocad will be a good tool to help him. I think you have understood the point

    Plz dont tell that "autcad has no professional value in detailed design" what ever u mention for lines plan or other drawings. I have seen what the great ship designer in Bangladesh Dr. Abdur Rahim does for ship design. He uses other softwares for hull design, but his approach is to start the sketch initally in autocad, all thing he does is 100% professional.

    this thread started when issac82 wanted some sample lines plan for practicing drafting, so i see nothing to discourage him to use autocad. Designing doent mean always using costly softwares like maxsurf, autoship etc.

    This forum have many designers who uses Autocad professionally to use in lines plan, i am sure,

    In my experience Autocad is not good for linesplan. Yes, you can draw lines, but I too found out that it does not fair properly. Even if you have the coordinates, when you zoom, the curves become angled straight lines and it is difficult to tell whether a curve is ok or not.

    That is simply because Autocad is not meant to be used for naval architecture, where visual fairness of curves on the screen is paramount. Of all non-naval cad programs I found Turbocad to be the best. And it is the cheapest by far too. Splines and Beziers are as true as possible on the screen. Do not turn into angled straight lines when one zooms in, like in Autocad.

    It is much faster to draw very precise curves in Turbocad. Much, much faster. But there are naval design programs there that do a lot of other design-related stuff that Auto and other non-naval cad programs don't do.

    when you see that curves has become angled straightlines in Autocad as masrapido said, simply the regenerating model command ( write "re " in the command line and press enter) will solve the problem. So this is not an important problem in Autocad.

    That is true, but it still does not fix the problem. The lines are not faired properly.You can even enter coordinates from a text file by importing it, but even if you re-generate the straight lines, the points are not there where you want them. They still stray. How do you handle that in Autocad? Manually, and that is a long and arduous process.

    The better option is to use a proper program for naval architecture. Autocad is not such a program. Autocad is intended for mechanical and architectural design.

    Masrapido i agree with you, you have refered a specific problem which is intelacutal word;
    actually every programs may have some specific problem, but we can never tell that " it has no professional value"
    I use many naval architectural softwares for my designs , each of them help me in designing hull in a specified way, and autocad also help me in my design approach thats it, and its true for many designers ,

    is there any document where all the rules are laid down for working with lines planes,drawing them and all these things?

    No mate, life is not that easy, I am learning to draw also, very difficult for now, buy i keep ay it, slowly learning , with help from these good people here.

    I have Autocad 2008 and also Maxsurf Pro, they are very different to use, even for me now I can see the advantages of Maxsurf for boat work.
