I will be watching with interest. See how smooth you can get those cams to work. Will be good to look at real images rather than computer generated.

I sat down to do a final version of the drawings for cutting and remembered I had not found whatever gears or sprockets we are going to use because we had not picked the motor etc yet at the time. Hopped online and...I can't find any sprockets thin enough. If I have to make the down struts thicker is it going to be a big deal?

This is the chain and sprockets I had in mind:

Several months back I found the manufactures page and it had much more detailed drawings and specifications. Of course I can't find their site now.

    Rick--

I was thinking I could just cut wheels out of acrylic the right diameter, mount them on the drill press and use a round file to add a groove. Then use O rings for belts. Do you think slipping would be too severe?

The only other choice is to add about 1/4" of thickness and use those chain sprockets...

We have had a major telephone line out for repairs so I have been off the air for a while.

The problem with a belt is the possible slip. If the blades get diagonal it will be a problem.

One of the possible fixes is to put a shaft between the sides. It could have fairing slid over it to reduce drag.

Extra width does not matter too much because the drag can be determined so it can be accounted for.

I get gears and bits from a place called Smallparts. They have an outlet in California I believe.

Yeah I am trying to track down a solution other then belt/O ring as I felt like the slippage would be pretty bad on wet parts. Just going to go fatter on the down struts for the test model and use plastic chain.

What have you ordered overall and what has arrived? Are you able to do any testing yet?

Actually I was surprised that the receiver I purchased with the transmitter did not have a separate power supply. It takes power from the motor controller. With only 6V connected to the controller it was a bit temperamental. If voltage was a little higher then it controlled smoothly.

It was either DOA or I am doing something wrong. I am taking it over to my Electronics wizard buddy tomorrow afternoon as he doesn't need directions (which is good as there is not a lot of documentation).

Still haven't gotten in the plastic chain sprockets in yet to get final dimensions. Sorry for the slow down but life is intruding. New product launch coming up and it's draining all my time. On the plus side, the new shop space we found has a separate section about 30 feet long and 10 feet wide that will do nicely for a boat building space. Of course the moving process sucks...will keep everyone posted as time permits.

Wasn't anything I did apparently. One of the downsides to ordering from the other side of the planet is that shipping back the item for an RMA cost more then the item in this case lol. I am not 100% convinced I didn't kill it anyway so I just ordered another.

Is very disappointing when you wait for something and it turns out to be a dud. I have not had any great problem with electrics out of China. Have had difficulty interpreting sketchy or even incorrect instructions though.

Normally they are good about replacement - will be interesting to see how it turns out. The HobbyCity site has provision for posting feedback so you can look to see if others have had a similar problem or even make your own comment. I don't hold back with feedback on items I buy. Would never buy another Canon camera and would always test run a Sunbeam appliance before leaving the shop.

Well, a sort of update. Just signed the lease on 1,500 sq ft of shop space. Has a nice section about 10 feet wide and 30 feet long so 18-20 foot hulls wont be a problem =)

Also got the issues with the new laser deal worked out so it should be her in 10 days or less. (knock on wood)

Now if I can get a design worked out I can be pedaling some flab off in the spring.

Not yet. Swamped with work and the move. My work is sort of cyclical. Lots of free time for a month or two then a month or two of zero free time. I WILL get to it though.
