They, as with most brilliant minds, somewhat private people and only Bob Oram has a website (run by a friend) http://www.boboramdesign.com.au/, My gallery has some John Hitch photos as well as a small powercat (C10) by Robin Chamberlin, also see http://www.icecat.com.au/objectives.htm, PM me with your phone number & other self details, & I will call my contact and give it to him if you want to chat with Robin, I do not have contacts for John....

Mas - that is a well cool website.

Do you have any links/pics how the Pod 46 looks in the flesh, the drawings are I guess, deliberately undetailed.

Did you see the photo gallery of the lads building the 46'er?

    Thanks the link.
    Richard

PS Not allowed to give you Rep points, sorry mate!

I think that is the "mango" design series.... Yep and the result is both light and strong - so long as one does not add this then that then the other, - as "overloading" is an enemy of performance catamaran design....

Over here the "pods" started off as an open bridgdeck racing cat and needed basic accomodation space for the occasional offshore overnight races like Brisbane to Gladstone (multihull division) - at least that is my take on the development of that style...

Yep quite nice the 38 was the starting base about a year ago - I do not know how the AU$300K for basic sailaway is arrived at - for the 48 ???? - very well regarded designer with a similar build system to Bob Oram... The quality control for the kit components seems to be exemplary...

I am sticking with the local (Brisbane) guys just 'cause I can visit & check their work locally... I do not how long the impact from this econimic/fiscal shitheap will take to kill the boatbuilding from kit option here in OZ.... $300,000 AUD is within my budget.... at the moment?

How much would a local boatbuilder charge to construct a yacht like that from the kit?
I remember reading that a couple who had decided to build a yacht ended up going back to work as it was a better deal to pay someone to do it whilst receiving 2 incomes?

As you say $300,000 AUD is very reasonable.

Possible if Owner significantly assists in the build or pay someone competent to do the basic build and add all the fittings later (nav, electronice, safety gear, batteries, wiring loom, furniture, domestic stuff, sails, sheets, rigging & so on)... Go carefully through the *.pdf and check out the inclusions, then itemise what is not written....

Else contact Schoenning and get a quote and come over and do the build....

Sorry RHP, see my post in "Global Politics...." The 39C motor-sailor variation suits my needs/desires to a T.... and the option from harlemriverman, (thanks for the thought), is a little tooooo big and requires lots of crew...
