    Big topic this fuel business

Just did a quick calc and figured a yacht like Greg Normans could burn 700plus l of fuel and hour, that means in three hours could use as much fuel as your family car does in one year
THAT yacht has only 4000 bhp, there are plenty more with twice as much
Question, should these guys be allowed to use so much fuel, should there be a cap on bhp?
There is so much fuel just wasted, maybe that creates a shortage which forces prices

I see tons more fuel waisted on Publik Transportation, an empty 40 ft bus with one or two folks going by every 15 min on tax extorted dollars.

    Hi Stu,

I was wondering which yacht (if he has more than one) of Grerg Norman's you are speaking of.

When at seamanship school in 1991, I worked getting a Huckins ready for sea. Directly behind us the yard was building a boat for Norman. This boat, if I remember correctly, was a cold molded, 64' sportfisher, with V91 Detroits. I'm not up on what such engines burn fuel wise, but the rate you state seems excesive., so I assume he may have a larger boat by now.

so? did you ever ride a bus:))
At least in your country you can drive cheap euro cars, we are not personally allowed to import cars, so our kids drive worn out gas guzzlers all in the name of protecting out archaic car manufacturing (industry) we have almost no public transport, much like LA
We just keep on building roads, head in sand like there's no tomorrow
i live abt 6 months a year in Europe, I dont need a car there, trains, buses trams and ferries can get me anywhere Even in Russia , Ukraine there are tens of thousands of minibuses, all packed most of time Yeppers USA and Au ***** the most, but they use the most gas too
I do abt 150 km a week on my bike, treated like a lepar on the roads, been knocked off 3 times

My feeling is that the only way Aussy will react, - is to higher fuel prices - - - roll on $200/barrel - - Force the issues and provide incentive for other options to be built....

Most politicians are blind to reality and if they get together the blind will lead the blind in a circle, but sadly never fast enough to disappear up their collective fundamental orifice..........?

One option - - - - to support local manufacture of the U.Q. photovoltaic panels, is for governments (local / State / Federal), to make it attractive for every home-owner to install these on their roof-tops at least 10% above their use levels....

From a goverment point of view Mas there's no money in it! looks good to stick up a few and be seen to be keen. But to actually be keen, not enough backhanders (bribes) to make it work, unlike your oil barons who will bribe their way into anything because they can (and exterminate what they can't)

shame on you lazyjack, you are evil. You presume to restrict how someone can spend his own money? Presuming he earned his money legally, who are you, or a government agency to say how he can spend his own money? He likely spends more on cars, entertainment, clothes, vactions, housing than you do too, so what? You going to outlaw that as well?

Why not just out law all "non-essential" boats? They are a waste of money and resourses after all. And while we are at it, how about all private aircraft, and football, skiing, bicycles, etc. Almost nobody "needs" to own or participate in such activities. Why should not that money be seized by the government and spent on more "worthy" causes?

Hah! This is evil. You are a closet Marxist, someone with a twisted criminal morality who thinks that because YOU want to use someone else's money for causes YOU decide are more worthy, that somehow it makes theft acceptable.

Too many self-righteous people want to use the government to steal from anyone who earns more than average income. This institutionalized envy will kill liberty, it will kill incentive, it will kill growth and innovation. It will kill the human spirit. You ultimately end up with a "people's paradise" like North Korea, Cuba and China. If you like it so much you may go there.

So why do you hate those that spend more on fuel they you do? What natural law or right should anyone have to dictate what is an acceptable amount of fuel to spend? He pays the same price for it as you do. You and everyone like you are evil.

The more wealthy people there are, assuming they earned their wealth legally and honestly, the better off everyone is. We should celebrate our wealthy people, hold them up as example of what can be achieved. the more people in the world working honestly and hard to become wealthy, the better off we all will be. And reject this institutional envy you mistake as moral superiority.

Shame on you, shame on you, shame on you and every other latent Marxist who thinks like you. You espouse a fail ideology, a failed economic policy and an failed social policy. Reject it. Reject it. REJECT IT!

tee, hee, so funny, me been self employed all my life, this finite resource would last a lot longer if it were"nt for the hedonists
Now you take Fish, if we left it to the public to self regulate, how many fish would there be?
I hate rules, but here we need some, but thanks for you input, :))
Oh and I do have the utmost admiration for people like Bill Gates, who all your have not as muchers try take his rights away, take the product he put on your desk and let others mutilate it
Who dont I admire, well people who are put up on a pedestal for putting a round ball into a net, or for(starring) in a soap
And in my trekks through the former USSR, seeing the results of the failed experiment, I came to despise ole Marx and ole Lenin
And as for social warfare,!! I am not entitled to a pension either, so theres you answer, you really cant JUDGE A PERSON ON a post, but you seem to have done so

Petros, just because you earn more money doesn't give you the right to more oxygen or more credits to pollute.
    Evil? Get a dictionary.

    Banning all pleasure boats,skiing,bicycles?
    What reactionary drivel.

Somewhere, a line has to be drawn on excessive consumption.

The problem is that so much of our stuff these days is just one-use, throwaway junk.

For example, I purchased a mobile phone earlier in the year, and I was disgusted with the amount of packaging used. I mean, do I really need a plastic bag to hold 1 PC USB cable? Do I really need a separate box just to hold the charger?

I imagine that if we cut down heaps on packaging, we would already save heaps in resources like paper and plastic. Also, people these days don't seem to understand the concept of repairing something and using it. Instead, most of us just go out and buy a newer model and throwaway the slightly damaged but otherwise usable older one.

The environmental argument these days is so laden with lies and false facts that its very difficult for the general public to distinguish truth from lies. You than also get politicians who try to use the "green" argument to push out their own personal agendas rather than genuinely trying to do something for the environment.

Because my old phone got STOLEN!

    Bloody low lifes....

But Longliner45, my point isn't so much that people shouldn't be allowed to upgrade since technology moves so fast, but more about being smarter with the way we use technology. For example, when I was traveling in Japan, I often wondered if those electronic toilets were really a necessary part of life? In Hong Kong, which is where I'm from by the way, many people often change phones every 6 months, and even accounting for the rapid pace of tech development, is a new phone every 6 months necessary?

Ultimately, I'm not going to stop others from doing so, since the desire for better things is what drives innovation and development. However, I think we should be smarter with our resources in the same way that most people now are quiet careful with how they spend their money. I'm certainly not an environmentalist, but I am in full support of smarter resource such as petroleum so we aren't at the mercy of the middle east all the time. Surely with the rising of newer, lighter materials and alternative propulsion systems, we can design a newer generation of yachts that are still stylish and luxurious but don't cost the earth to run and purchase? Even ignoring the environmental side of things, economically being resource smart must be a good thing? I surely don't mind having more money to invest in other things like shares or Real estate whilst still being able to have the yacht of my dreams.
