Was on a interviev with Bureau Veritas today.

They want to hire me and send me to South Korea.
I will start on 2000USD a mounth witch is exstremly good in this part og the world and slowly increase to about the same as I had in Norway.

My gf live in Taiwan, my famely in Norway and why would I take a job that eliminate me from being with eather off them?

A company in Norway making diesel electric propulsion are interested to meet me once I'm back in Norway so that would defently be the option I concider moust. 6,6kV would get me high voltage experience and I would be playing a litle with diesels again. There structure would allow me to work both in design, service and workshop at the same time witch would not make me feel bored that is for shure.

If I could I would prefere to start sailing again as a electrician asistant or something. I got all the schools to get my 2,1 and Chief engineer papers, but thanx to the STCW-95 they are no longer valid after 5 years without sailing so I would nead to take it all over again, but taking a few exsams at the same time as I'm sailing should make it easy to become ship electrician.

    I think I have a plan;)

Stian, one of your many forum 'fathers' here. First thing - work out what the cost of living is in South Korea. What will $500 a week buy you in the way of food, lodgings and transport. Will it leave you enough to save.
Next - how firm is this 'offer' in Norway.
Not sure of how old you are - or how 'worldly'. Don't take offence, but - as other 'forum' knock-abouts will assure you...there are other girlfriends. Another cliche - in every port. (It cuts both ways - there are other boyfriends waiting to pick-up where you left off...) Hurt feelings for a while (the broken heart syndrome) which usually lasts for up to 24 hours, 48 at most.
It could be time to make a clean break - for your sake - and hers. As I've hinted before my son - get out, see something of the world. Do something with yourself so that you don't end your time here with regrets. What's the modern term - get a life - and live it until you drop from exhaustion. And good luck. Remember every time you're down, really down - the next wave will carry you up, and only with past experience will you know when to jump off.:)

And you other pug-uglies out there - stop sniggering this lad needs your advice and reassurance...

We have ben together for 5 years and those girlfriends I meet in ports only made my croatch scratch.

Sailing in the mercant navy is no longer a way to see the world. Ships are only in for a few hours befour they leave.

I would like to go back to New Plymoth. That was a nice place and we had alot of time in the port there since our ROV neaded constant repair and parts had to be shiped from the UK.

The offer I have from Norway is a good one with more than a 50% posebilety for being hired. If not my old employer is interested to have me back to test there switchboards.

I quit to move to Taiwan, a other tester quit to go back to school and one was transfered to tecnical drawing all in less than one year and it take about 3 or more years there to get a chance to try testing.

If I return to Norway I will have a new job in less than a week. I ben without one in Taiwan for 6mouths.
