Wood specialist seeking position

Hello

I lived in Trinidad & Tobago for the first 28 years of my life, where I was immersed in the boating industry practically from birth. My father was building a 28 ft launch in the back garden around my conception, and we lived just yards from a busy yacht club. He went on to build several other boats of various shapes and sizes, culminating in a Bruce Roberts 38, cold molded. I was fortunate to assist him throughout my formative years and owe my natural ability with tools, and sense of design and engineering, to him. I spent my free time as a youth repairing old throwaways destined for the bonfire, mainly wooden, and later undertook some small scale commercial repairs in GRP.

After a career in the petroleum industry and taking a degree in Art, I completed the City and Guilds 2451 certification at the boatbuilding academy in Lyme Regis last year, in order to get back to what I know best .

I am currently completing a Haven 12 1/2 (Herreschoff/ Joel White daysailer), whilst working fulltime fitting out hulls at The Select Yacht Group in Rock, Cornwall. I have so far spent time working at Spirit Yachts in Ipswich, as a cabinet maker, (a position I got by virtue of recommendation, through one of the course directors). I left them in February to take up an apprenticeship at Cockwells in Falmouth, where the work is more traditional, but soon moved on to where I am now, in search of better working conditions.

Although I prefer more traditional work, cabinetry and building wooden hulls, I am capable with all aspects of boatbuilding and open to all possibilities.

I am 43 years old, happily married, with two young daughters aged 7 and 3 1/2. My wife is a qualified teacher, but has spent most of her time at home with the children. We are willing to travel anywhere.

I would be greatful if you would accept this letter in lieu of a resume as I have none at the moment.

there are very big shortages of good cabbies here and in NZ, but Aussie employers are a bit tough, you need to be quite fast and accurate, most of the big firms use CAD routered stuff like zap out a drawer facia in seconds, I,ll have a look for you there are a couple of big buiuers in Brisbane, superyachts and also there is a crowd in Perth builds up to ship size.
Your wife, secondary? primary?, in big demand , you fit the age criteria by 2 years, it is also a better place for your children to grow up

She's primary. Not much experience though.

I can handle fitting pre-fab stuff no problem.

Used to design and fit bespoke at SpiritYachts, working in solid mahog. Quick enough with good shop tools.
