Geez, is this the longest thread on here or what? I can tell you about pirates. When I was traveling through South America, I was going through Columbia on a bus and we were robbed by a bunch of outlaws. they dropped a tree on the road. I was the only white person on the bus. I was singled out to say the least, I resigned myself to being shot, but ended up only being robbed of everything I had including my passport and my ID's and if think that doesn't sound too bad, well, you weren't detained in Brazil for two weeks. Argentina was really cool, no one bothered me at all for having no identification, but I ended up having to fly back to the states via the Embassy in Sao Paolo helping me.

Yeah, landlubber pirates/rebels (more accurate: thugs) can be pretty bad. In the early 90's I drove alone through much of Mexico, into Oaxaca, near the border with Chiapas. One night, in response to a request for directions to the farm I was to visit, a woman kept repeating, "Peligroso! (danger). I thought she meant the condition of the roads, narrow, with sharp curves and steep dropoffs, not to mention insane truck drivers, but found out later about the bands of rebels who stop vehicles by cutting down trees across the roads and robbing the occupants.

I was very lucky never to be stopped. Actually, so were you, RAWRF, to get out alive.

As the Ozzies say, "Good on ya, mate."

    Cheers,

    Charlie

Take a look at Seaworthiness thread. Over 650 posts and still going strong, arguing about L/B ratios and center of gravity calculations, etc. This one's more fun. We even get to poke a Walrus now and then.

The British have a wealth of slang terms that are used to describe the act of lovemaking and "poke" is just one of them. You may want to rephrase :D

Geeeeeez!! Mychael, mate, how do you like being proven right so quickly!!

OK, for all you Poms/Limeys out there: "We even get to make fun of and insult a Walrus now and then."

Gareth, your mind's in the gutter.

Jack, what the hell's a "septic"?

    Daily Telegraph Sept 20, 2006
"A COUNCILLOR from one of the most culturally diverse areas in Sydney has called for Aussie slang to be included in any citizenship test....
Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show almost 8 per cent of residents in the local government area were born in China and almost 6 per cent in Italy."

No disrespect intended, but I'm rolling on the floor, laughing at the image of a Chinese or Italian native learning or using Ozzie slang.

Hey, Walrus, who you calling a ham shank, me or Jack? Speaking strictly in the traditional sense, one of us is going to poke a Walrus
