Dealing with pirates

Geez, is this the longest thread on here or what? I can tell you about pirates. When I was traveling through South America, I was going through Columbia on a bus and we were robbed by a bunch of outlaws. they dropped a tree on the road. I was the only white person on the bus. I was singled out to say the least, I resigned myself to being shot, but ended up only being robbed of everything I had including my passport and my ID's and if think that doesn't sound too bad, well, you weren't detained in Brazil for two weeks. Argentina was really cool, no one bothered me at all for having no identification, but I ended up having to fly back to the states via the Embassy in Sao Paolo helping me.

 

Yeah, landlubber pirates/rebels (more accurate: thugs) can be pretty bad. In the early 90's I drove alone through much of Mexico, into Oaxaca, near the border with Chiapas. One night, in response to a request for directions to the farm I was to visit, a woman kept repeating, "Peligroso! (danger). I thought she meant the condition of the roads, narrow, with sharp curves and steep dropoffs, not to mention insane truck drivers, but found out later about the bands of rebels who stop vehicles by cutting down trees across the roads and robbing the occupants.

I was very lucky never to be stopped. Actually, so were you, RAWRF, to get out alive.

I read that book too Jack, "How To Win Friends and Influence People" it did no good for me either.
