colinhilton: Universal Test-Bed

In an effort to accelerate progress, an arrangement anyone can sign up to featuring DIY-store materials and stock equipment from aero-modelling. Sheet material invariably retails in 2:1 dimensions, with timber widely available in Imperial measures and composites frequently in metric. Accordingly the scale proof-of-concept here is an ideal build at around a two-foot or 500mm span. A 24" wide and 26" long deck allows for a 20" propeller, an alternative template providing for a 22" propeller instead: accordingly the outline is readily doubled in size to suit propellers of 40" to 44" diameter. The craft is 5' 5" (1700mm) long, largely dictated by optimal flexure of the uPVC hydroski made from laminated skirting-board. With 800w motor, battery and ESC it floats level with waterline coincident with the underside of the deck. A how-to guide appears at https://teledrone.blogspot.com/2025/04/poc-1.html while the keel here ~ which will eventually include batteries ~ is foam-filled and provides for principal buoyancy.
