Testing the wooden boat structure with FEA. A modern approach to the structural design of wooden boats by finite elements analysis of the keel- frames-deck beams structures. The validation of wood structural design compliance to the national boat building regulations and standards; US , Lloyd's or the EU ISO Standards may today be achieved with the FEA analysis . The optimisation of structural members (scantlings/ sizing) to minimise weight and ensure the strenght requirements are met can toady be achieved with FEA simulation and testing. Here is an illustrative video of a FEA simulation of the framing of Classic Wood Pilot Cutter done in Rhino with the new American FEA software created by Michael Freytag. Intact Solutions Wisconsin ,USA . In this case to make the simulation visually explicit I did setup a loadcase of subjecting the boat structure to a Body Load vertical acceleration.
