colinhilton: Rigid Deflatable Boat?
Patent app GB2362358 revisited in light of the evolution of practical electric outboard motors, with a view to an inexpensive watercraft able to be stored flat and yet deployed in seconds. With the neoprene fabric I sampled no longer in stock I've made do with a lighter stretchable fabric pinned to the sides of a cat with a deck measuring 2' by 3' and pontoons of 1'. The result acceptable, a domestic vacuum cleaner at the lowest possible setting drawing the fabric as tight as a drum and exposing the dowels supporting the sides. In 1901 Hubert Cecil Booth watched a demonstration of carpet cleaning at an exhibition in London, making history by suggesting the device should suck instead of blow air... it may be time to apply the principle to boats? Meantimes the experiment can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLWW7XThBGU
