OSP is a typical skiff design. Contender and 49er are brother and sister to her ship-lines. Sharp bow waterlines and hard chine V-section with decreasing raise provide for additional stability on fast reaching courses. Heeled waterlines are narrow for extra speed at low wind velocity. The weight of the bare hull is 50 kg, quite low for good performance but enough for a stiff construction using modern carbon materials. http://www.schiffbau.fh-kiel.de/IfS_FH_Kiel_YR_osp_en.html Main sail envelope is optimized for maximum performance close to the wind with a low induced resistance design. Main sail area is 11 m, exactly Contender's main sail area. A 10 m gennaker is large enough for extra reaching speed while still managable. The boat has simple wings of moderate dimensions. Hull beam is 1.4 m while total beam is 2.0 m. Wings are adjustable to fit different crew stature. Fittings are very simple. Spares from surfboard mass production are used wherever possible (masthead, gennaker-boom, wings, helmet). A single line is used to set gennaker and it's boom.
