BOATMIK: Electric Mundoo III River Murray Cliffs riverboat plywood solar

A real boat that has been in use by it's owners for a year or so. Designed on the shop floor by Duck Flat Wooden Boats, I (Michael Storer Design) ended up doing the documentation and preparation for the plan set. 12hp gives a top speed of around 9knots. Break-even point of power consumed and power used is about 4.5knots on an Australian spring day. Comfortable accomodation. One of the owner's highlights was sneaking up on a flock of emus swimming across the river. www.members.ozemail.com.au/~storerm/solarboat/solarboat

      Very nice picture and boat!

Hasn't it been on the cover of WoodenBoat (US) or something like that? I think I have seen the boat before, also a picture from that area?

The boat is now about four years old. I think they might be selling it too.

The information link above is wrong. Now is

Their use pattern has worked very well with the solar power. They have been mostly travelling on one day to a nice place then staying there for a few days, then moving on.

Solar is still an immature technology for boats. It doesn't really allow enough power or range for when conditions get bad. But for protected waters the boat has worked very well.
