promocean: ACAJOU

The ACAJOU (French for Mahaghony) is a design by Jon Bannenberg, UK. My model of this 42 Meter Motoryacht is scratchbuilt from several scetches and pictures found in several magazines. Scale is 1/30 and the yacht is driven by 2 electric motors.

The model was built in a short time of 8 weeks only. That was for hobby and not for sale. So it was built from cheap foam, ply and very thin mahaghony stripes. The superstrukture is from balsa and polystyrene plates. With two 540 type electric motors, a nicad battery and simple r/c it cost me about 300 DM, that's today about 160 .
Today I will make a glasfibre hull and polystyrene superstructure from milled plates. With modern equipment and r/c it will cost about 3000,- material plus work time. But with a better result.
