    Effect of Chine at Bow

I do indeed intend to consider the entire wave train, however, would it not be prudent to verify my understanding thus far before adding more elements and compounding an error?

    Effect of Chine at Bow

What PAR said is gonna take me a bit to digest, but it seems that if the water catches the chine aft of the trough on its way up to form another crest, it will push the craft up, and thus set the craft on plane sooner, assuming everything else is correct for a planing hull.

    Effect of Chine at Bow

Been doing a bit more studying. If I understand correctly, as a planing hull (or any other hull) moves through the water at displacement speed, there will be a wave with a crest and a trough. As the hull's velocity increases, the wavelength and amplitude will increase, moving the trough deeper...

    Effect of Chine at Bow

Marine VHF transcript. Party 1: "Unidentified vessel, suggest mutual course adjustments 8deg starboard to avoid collision." Party 2: "Suggest you adjust your course 12deg port to avoid collision." Party 1: "This is the Captain of the Navy Destroyer on official maneuvers. I see you on collision...

    Effect of Chine at Bow

BEAUTIFUL! Thank you. Sometimes the best answers are the simple ones.

    Effect of Chine at Bow

My aim is a basic runabout for cruising a reservoir, Lwl/Bwl abt 5*17.5, with beam near amidship or slightly afore. The design should be a comfortable compromise between screaming performance on 10HP, and 300HP to crawl at 5kn. I understand there are MANY variables, change something here and...

    Effect of Chine at Bow

Thank you, but *whistle* that price is maybe a little TOO comprehensive for what I'm looking for. Not saying it's overpriced, just that I can't justify 20 lbs of platinum when 2-bits worth of copper will suffice. In other words, I don't need the theory and equations explained (I can generally...

    Effect of Chine at Bow

Mankind has been sailing for millennia compared to flying for just over 100yrs, yet I seem to be able to find at least twice the information on aircraft engineering than I can find for boat engineering, and when I do find something for boat engineering it seems to be displacement hulls more...

Joukowski airfoil as basis for hull form?

AH!!!! THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!!! I figured there had to be some maths involved somewhere, just didn't know how to find it before. Savitsky (Savitski gave me a bunch of hits on something else entirely lol) has some recently published research papers to boot. Well, recent in the sense that some...

Joukowski airfoil as basis for hull form?

Yeah, compressible air vs incompressible water... this is what I was afraid of.

Joukowski airfoil as basis for hull form?

I want to build a planing inboard something along the lines of a vintage Chris Craft, but with a few changes to accommodate newer technologies and safety standards. I intend to use it for day-cruising around the local reservoir, maybe tow the grandkids on their tube or drop anchor and drown a...
