    Design brief for anti-whaling vessel?

The earthrace boat was amazing for its intended design purpose I enjoyed seeing what we did of the boat on the whale wars series. But it is hard to watch the whale wars campaign. They have to be underdogs -- the "war" is one of reality tv exposure. If they were "too competent" at...

    swim platform

Wellcraft built other swim platforms around this time as upside-down box shapes in a mold - wood only on the transom side and a small lip for stiffness. They weighed around 100 lbs. The sides were built out as well for stiffness and looks. The hollow allowed the drive to tuck up under on some...

    New hull design

    Tranducer Positioning

Yes I noticed the strake there.

    Tranducer Positioning

I like a trailer which supports the boat as close to the transom as possible or ideally, bunks that extend slightly beyond the transom. After some years, you don't want it to develop any hook from the weight being carried by an unsupported spot some distance in front of the transom.

alpha one outdrive - hit log

For completeness, no there is no shear pin on the prop. The mercruiser alpha props had a rubber hub. A "spun hub" usually allows idle speed but the more power you apply the more it slips.

    finding an engine

NOLA is New Orleans Louisiana region ? What type of boat, how large, how fast do you want to go, and how many hours use per year?

    Layup process????

Can you please explain this in more detail? I'm not clear how faster or slower changes how the layers would be overlapped/"interlocked" for this "24' flat bottom" (my only/limited experience with this size project is with "slower" one layer at a time.) Edit: thanks for the PM - I appreciate...

    Layup process????

If I read this right, there is a disagreement as to whether this should/must be done in one go or not. How much strength do you lose if you use (air inhibited) poly resin and let one layer kick before applying the next layer some hours later or the following day? If it really has to be done in...

Need help with inflexible boat repair

As long as it's a post 1996 year the zodiac is likely PVC; pre 1996 and it's likely Hypalon like Avon, etc. I've only repaired one zodiac where the tubes came off from both the transom and started coming off from the floor. I went with the genuine zodiac glue ( Zodiac #7097 Universal...

Should I install cleats, handrail, cushion rest before deck and hull stick together ?

I'll take access to the backing plate side in case future repairs are needed over "automobile styled" interior any day.

    boat paint

Awlgrip has been recommended most to me by those who have had their powerboats done.

    Cost effective Epoxy formulation

The catch-22 might be: you need enough volume to make it worthwhile to research and set the whole system up to mix your own resin and guarantee quality and quality control, and if you have that volume, you have the buying power to simply get it from a supplier at a much reduced rate that reduces...

Fiber glass paint jobs, colors, scheme etc..

Somewhere I read an article on how they do the complicated in-gelcote colors now using some kind of color inlay application in the mold. Can't find it. Anyone have experience doing elaborate designs in-mold gelcote? (I'm old fashioned - I prefer single colors ;)

    1986 260 Sundancer Project

If you have everything free, it should be an interesting experiment. We need more new hybrid stuff. I don't see designing the cradle for the motor's torque as a showstopper at all. Will you have a cooling system for the motors? (I'm out of my element talking electric, but am curious to see what...

Roto moulded small hull ..good or bad buy?

I had no idea you could build a rotomold mold DIY -- I found the discussion more interesting than the original question :P But I guess we should be good and stay on your topic if you are sure you want to lounge around on some production boat instead of creating something neat yourself ;)
