You are on your own here, I would simply replace them with new ones and get another 45 years out of them :) The angle of the bend on leading edge of the Tab is very critical to fit into the bottom mount to get the proper travel and still stay in the mounting plate. We like riveting since it...

Here you go.

Bennett Trim Tabs As keysdisease points out we do sell replacement Trim Tab Assemblies and Dealers often can get them for you at a discount. As he also mentioned, when properly protected by a zinc anode or incorporated into a bonding system the Tabs often outlast the boat. They are...

It's also worth noting that the use of power trim on an outboard or inboard/outdrive (I/O) and Trim Tabs together can achieve better results than the use of power trim alone to get the boat's best running angle and maximum thrust at the same time. If the boat is running at a bow high attitude...

Interesting conversation! Trim Tabs on a well designed hull allow the hull to run at its optimum running attitude over a broader range of speed, sea conditions and weight distribution. Far from band-aides, they allow the good characteristics that a designer has developed to work in a larger...

Actually, larger Trim Tabs do not necessarily add more drag. The larger Trim Tab will need to be deflected to less of an angle to generate the same amount of lift as a smaller one. So it will have a better lift to drag ratio. Also properly installed Trim Tabs angle up above the hull bottom...

Thanks Stu! Tom

Stu, The Trim Tabs look really great, and the bottom mount hinges on them look perfect. If you don't mind I am going to forward the pictures and thread to a few folks at the factory so they can see them installed and read about the results. Tom McGow Bennett Marine

I'm just teasing ;) I really want to see physical progress! I've seen the pictures a hundred times, like most folks I want to see something new, forward movement, concrete progress.

Yawn :)

I must have had Cut Once mixed up with someone else (senior moment).

I see Chris's point. Would you have to swim around the boat to move the board and then swim back around to climb on it to right it? From my dinghy racing days I remember the boat blowing over again when trying to recover from a capsize to windward in really windy conditions. It could get...

Cool.

So what happens when a tack is missed and the boat is lying aback, and there is no input from the pilot?

Good Lord Doug, Take this the right way please. . . Just get on with building your model and skip the repetitive posts. You seem to be fixed on the idea, so as they say, "Build it and they will come".

The black powder coating on the Sport Tabs acts as insulation between the stainless Trim Tabs and the aluminum. Stainless Steel Trim Tabs are indeed used on many aluminum boats. We supply many aluminum boat builders with Trim Tabs to be installed at the factory as well as many aftermarket...

1) A sail can certainly cause a bit of suction but usually slacking the sheet prevents it from being a problem. Problems with sock luffs holding water and any design that allows the sail or mast to fill are important to prevent. A disabled design should be automatically self-righting with no...

One thing that should be considered is the ease of getting along side the boat when it is water to rendering assistance. Sailing with my daughter in the Access 303 for Special Olympics there were a few times that sailor needed help including removing them from the boat out on the water. The...

Yes somewhat like a Laser. I raced Lasers extensively in the '70s and it did remind me of the way their mast behaves in a puff, As I mentioned I was quite impressed by the rig (and the boat). Apart from being really well suited for disabled sailors the boat was just plain fun to sail. In the...

My daughter and I sailed a smaller version for Special Olympics a few years ago. I think it was the 303. It had the same "Jib Spar" although without the wishbone. I was skeptical when I first saw it but was actually quite impressed how well it worked in practice. Although we were sailing...
