Good technical description fastsailing.
Wil using your description, my max upwind angle (in optimal conditions) would be 70 deg from the wind
Pauls fishing kites in NZ, made for pulling heavy fishing lines out over a kilometer. The smaller ones would handle that easily
Never measured but I guess 20 deg for me riding standard board, but the foilers get another 10deg more or so.
As a kite surfer and boater, I find it interesting some of the concepts around kite powered boats.
Hook in to a 12 meter kite on a 20 knot day...
Still going around this never ending loop in my brain.
Revisited this concept - selling the beach house and moving further south, to get a bit...
Yes the transoms were very similar except the Tennant had a straight keel right to the prop, with taper on the sides only
Makes sense to me,...
Thanks all, for your replies. its great to have such knowledgeable persons providing input.
Outboards - I live in NZ home of $2.20 unleaded...
Particularly with sensibly thin hulls and weighed down to 3500 - 4000kg mainly aluminum, fuel, beer and fishing lures
Yes good point, it needs to be a bit further forward,
And longer as Russell noted.
Trying to keep the Ama beams attachments in sensible...
No more talk of sailboats or Catamarans.
Back on the stabilized mono / outrigger :)
1.2m W.L. beam (10:1)
Russell, that thing is amazing, an ocean going version of that is it.
What is it like in rough water ?
One thing I like about the outrigger is it...
Easy as to to weld a 200L sealed section into the Ama (talking aluminum here) below the waterline. 2" fill point from transom with a ball valve....
For offshore passage - I imagine an Ama with plenty of reserve bouyancy, with a simple ballast system,
if it's starting to get ugly, 250kg of...
With a efficient displacement catamaran, you either use the narrow hulls for accommodations,
or you use the wing deck. Im 6'5" so it going to be...
That outrigger looks amazing, I have seen footage of your sailing proas, blasting along.
Could you give us some details on this...
That is a lot of boat for tiny accommodation. Looks fast though, could put big flat upper deck above the beams, turn into a giant party boat
Minimal catamaran version 1
12m x 4.8m
4500kg medium load
0.75m hull beam
2 x 30 hp shaft
Tennant style immersed...
Thats right, even at minimal level its a big build.
I can afford to build it but I can't afford to get someone else to build it.
CAT 1 is the rules and safety requirements around a passage from NZ to the tropics/Australia (1000nm +) mostly designed for sailboats
Yes I like that Woods Jazz 30 charter, perfect fishing layout
but NZ cat1 regs require a 12m minimum for offshore passage.
0.75 beam works out to...
