    jet drives reconsidered.

Coming from a different angle, might it be easier to seal off both the intake and nozzle then force water out with compressed air, therefore when moored the inside of the pump would be dry but when underway you won't have priming issues, the thrust line can still be kept low, the tunnel doesn't...

New build, 22ft 1950's styled jet boat

I'm assuming the gearbox is the 31/35 ratio for that motor? For a performance boat I'd have thought that 145hp be a little light, although when I say performance I'm talking 45mph+ I built this alloy cabin boat a while ago with the Isuzu 1.9L Diesel making 120hp coupled to a Doen Jet (It...

    Jet engine for surf

jetsurf.com appear to have a 2-stroke reciprocating motor driving a waterjet, rather than a jet engine. Any motor can be adapted to run a waterjet...

Has anyone tried a variable grid plate

Weed grates normally have the bars spaced well apart and have a gap at the end. This allows the weeds to pass through the pump sort of like a big waste disposer in the kitchen sink. Rock grates normally have the bars closer together and span the full length of the intake. While these help to...

How to find a suitable jet for my boat?

At $20k I can hand build one for you. However you'd be far better off using motor and pump out of a smaller jet-ski, and as a bonus everything is there. Some of the older 2 cylinder 'skis had about 60hp, so should achieve your design speed. Otherwise you'll need to elaborate the spec's of...

    Hydrogene powered boat

How heavy do you suppose H2 is once compressed to 20MPa? Are you using a fuel cell to heat your home water, or burning directly?

    Hydrogene powered boat

HHO gas is simply steam. I'm sure you ment HH, H2 or hydrogen gas... Laws of energy conservation will tell you that the engine will never sustain itself. Breaking the bonds between the H2 and O takes the same amount of energy you'd get out re-joining them. However the parisidic loss from...

    Hydrogene powered boat

A basic hydrocarbon chemical reaction in your motor, (can be applied to any hydrocarbon string) 2(C8H18) + 25(02) = 16(CO2) + 18(H2O) So over half to the chemicals formed from the reaction are H2O... C8H18 is Octane. Imagine the guys that burn alcohol (methanol / ethanol) which...

    MarineDiesel from Sweden

They were hoping to have it on the market back in 2010, so I'm not holding my breath. For what we do they seem okay, share the bell housing bolt pattern, similar weight and physical dimensions as a BBC. We'd never run at WOT for a duration of 30 mins as most trips must be limited to 40mins or...

General shape / class of the jet boat hull bottom ?

Not always, there are ways around it... At 19' to 20' some of the big boat rules can be bent. Jetsprint boats run a transom deadrise angle up around 24*, I've used 19* extremely successfully with a warped bottom. What sort of vessel are you looking into? River, cabin, sea-going?

    Sterndrive vs Jets

This was a HUGE problem in the '70's and '80's. Basically people started putting waterpumps designed for riverboats into sea-going vessels, and the results were worse than ordinary. Hulls that weren't designed for the waterjet, and asking a 7" diameter pump to move enough volume to propell...

    Steering wheel location?

I always love this arguement. I frequently get asked the question as to why jets are predominantly LHD. A 16' vessel is likely to be trailered, therefore the side of the dock he comes alongside is of no consequence, as most boat ramps cater for both. Rule of the road at sea are the same...

Jet power on warped bottom hull?

Really? My boats have a chine width of 1680mm and delta pad at the transom has been as narrow as 220mm and generally no wider than 320mm depending on the pump employed. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong? Yes, it is desirable for commercial adventure tourism vessels to be able to perform...

Jet power on warped bottom hull?

No dramas, this is what all my boats are based on. Yes they can have a tendancy to spin in a turn or if you come off the gas abruptly, but you can successfully compensate for this by creating more lift at the front of the vessel.

Considering jet drive, concerned I'll screw it up

Jet skis are quite heavy for their length, some even up to 12' long. However your boat probably has more lifting area than a narrow jetski meaning getting the boat to lift onto plane shouldn't be to much of an issue, perhaps it won't quite do the 60+mph the 'ski will do, but do you really expect...

Considering jet drive, concerned I'll screw it up

As Mohawk suggested the jet ski type setup would be fine in your intended application. Depending on the overall weight and use of the vessel a larger diameter pump may be better, and at least with the use of either a boxer or vee configured motor it would sound like it's ment to. A used 700...

    Berkeley 12Ja Install?

There will most likely be a start-in-neutral-only circuit. As a jet doesn't really have a neutral you'll have to join these wires to allow motor to run.

can i run a berkley jet out of the water?

The rope seal on the mainshaft will need water for lubrication at high rpm or extended dry running, especially if they have been over-tightened, as they usually are.

    Home made jet drive?

Why re-invent the wheel? Get a hold of a used jet-ski, steal the gear out of it and place in your desired boat... Cost will most likely be similar, have more power than you'd need (that you don't have to use) and it already works... Unless of course you want to build one....
