    My Design - Trifoglio 25' - Suggestions & Opinions

This helps me a lot in understanding junk design. It seems to me that if you want a deeper hull you just decrease the dimension of the flat area on the bottom of the hull, as I've seen in the Amoy Fisher/Trader. Junks decks are very high at stern and bow. This seem to me a way to increase the...

    My Design - Trifoglio 25' - Suggestions & Opinions

This week end I played with Freeship and Rhino, I wanted to try a smaller boat flat-headed and flat-bottomed. By observing the pictures you suggested me, and the books that I have, I decided to have a bow which is gradually increasing its rake, with la large radius curve. The stern, on the...

    Single or Double Chine?

Yes, I think it would be better to call it double or triple chine. Anyway, I would suggest the one with the lower number of chines. In my opinion any chine under water is a bump that slows down the boat.

    My Design - Trifoglio 25' - Suggestions & Opinions

Thank you so much!!! As you said, there are just few books on the subject, and most of them are focused on the junk rig - which is also very interesting. But now I want to understand better the hull shape of old Junks, and you gave me more info in two posts than all the book I read in years. I'm...

    My Design - Trifoglio 25' - Suggestions & Opinions

Thank you for the info, this helps me to clarify some things. The truth is that my main objective was to design a boat to build for me: I wanted it to be: - scow bowed, as I think this shape has more pro than cons; - very easy and cheap to build, as I want to be able to build it for real; I...

    My Design - Trifoglio 25' - Suggestions & Opinions

The first sharpie looks like a Jim Michalik AF series. The second boat - which I like a lot - is simple and nice, and I like the rig setting. I love very very much Chinese Junks. I collected all the info that I could and some great books on them, thanks to the Junk Rig Association, but...

    My Design - Trifoglio 25' - Suggestions & Opinions

The plan is to build the boat in plywood and epoxy (stitch & glue). Unfortunately the dimension you are referring is standard in US, but where I live - Italy - there are also different formats. No one of them is large enough for a one sheet bottom, though, so the advantage of a flat bottom is...

    My Design - Trifoglio 25' - Suggestions & Opinions

I like it. I actually have a flat bottom version on the design. The reason for which I preferred a V bottom is due to the supposed pounding of scow bows in a chop. I could try a flat bottom aft, and some v at bow level. Anyway, I love the design you proposed. Did you build it yourself? Is the...

    My Design - Trifoglio 25' - Suggestions & Opinions

Hello everyone. An update about the design. Many things changed again. At the end I have been able to workout a single chine version that seems fine to me. Moreover, there is no more keel, I switched to an internal ballast with leeboards. I used a bigger cabin top, and this gives me standing...

    Warning message in Freeship. Help

Dear All, I am designing a small sailing boat using Freeship. When I run the Stability Curves, the software gives me the following warning message: 'Amplitude of heel angle <2.0 !!!' (attached). Can you help me understanding what does it mean? Does it mean the design is too stiff? I was not...

I hope that's where I have the highest righting moment. If it was where I dont have any more positive stability I'm afraid I would capsize the boat just by jumping into her! :) Anyway, it was wrong. Max GZ is at 40°, and AVS 126°. Maximal GZ : 0.686 m...

    My Design - Trifoglio 25' - Suggestions & Opinions

This is a Colvin design, quite extreme, but I like it. Based on an old chinese junk (hanshaw bay fisher/trader). The bottom side of the bow seems to be curved (sides lower than center)

    My Design - Trifoglio 25' - Suggestions & Opinions

The idea was to round just the bottom edge as you say, but I was not able to explaining it to the software I am just playing with shapes at this point, I still think I will stick to the 'double chined bow' design. I dont know exactly how to do what you suggest. I can set some wave height and...

Tonight I played with shapes again. I tried a round bow. Just to see it. I still think its too difficult to build. What you guys think?
