Yes . The foam is closed cell-type. It is build on urethane . You can find more information in www.magallanesboatbuilding.com. Antonio

Mr. Willallison. The urethane foam is very common. It is used in the construction industry for insulation, and is very inexpensive ( 3 US$/kg). Urethane is sold in any store where they sell fiberglass. Its comes in two liquid parts, Isocianato and Polyol. When are combined they expand through a chemical process, which in less than 15 minutes transforms in to rigid foam. My advice is to buy already built foam plates it in the refrigeration supplier industry and, can save a lot of work for a few dollars.

With all that foam volume I bet its unsinkable too - or pretty close!
