We purposely ran the boat aground to see how hard it is
to get off. We had been told that a big fault of wing keels is
that they act as Danforth anchors when aground.

Not so for this plywood keel!
It simply bent when we heeled the boat by climbing out on the boom. The thin plywood
was able to slice through the sand and we were off without
any problems. We are now
thinking of using a hard rubber
pad to replace the plywood. I
think I am on to a great new
way to make wing keels!
