I happened to catch the sailing vessel Denis Sullivan sailing out of our harbor this morning and couldn’t resist taking some photographs. About 35 other people were gathered on the dock taking photographs as she sailed out –a beautiful sight on a somewhat stormy morning. The ship was built for $4 million and offers students and adults an opportunity to take a 5-6 day cruise on the great lakes for around $600.

The S/V Denis Sullivan is a recreation of a 19th century Great Lakes Cargo Schooner. The vessel was built using a blend of traditional and modern construction methods and was designed and constructed to meet or exceed USCG regulations for vessels operating as a small passenger vessel and as a sailing school vessel.
