White lead alternitive?

I found a set of wood row boat plans on the web dated April 1954.
The say to use White lead and twine in the shiplap joints. I finnally found some I can order but it's expensive ( min. 5LB can for $70.00). My question is what can I use instead of white lead and where can I get some?

Thanks,
Mike Johnson
