Plan B

Thinner strips...but wider. Found 2 that were consecutive slices so the grain is about as bookmatched as possible. Soaked in hot water for an hour...bent really well and evenly...so hopefully will work out. I have 8 others to choose from so these will be the outside layer of a 2 layer lamination. That will give me a 3/8" outwale rather than 1/4"...bigger is better I guess.

I think I should have done it this way to start with...

Well...as you saw above...the outer layer went well. The inner layer not so well. I let is soak too long and it got stuck in the tube. It won't come out despite all I have tried so I tried to cut it out lengthwise. Broke the blade of my jig saw and gave up in disgust. Today I picked up new blades and will essay to extricate my $5.00 worth of wood from the $20 tubing...to the destruction of the tubing. Charlie Brown Syndrome strikes again. I will get some 3" tubing and try again.

Maybe if you let it dry out it will be easier to remove?

I think I would have to let it dry for a couple of weeks or more...it just doesn't seem to want to budge. I really don't have the build time to do that and besides...I have half the pipe cut already so I might as well finish...it is ruined as it stands.

Judging by the thread's title, you may be right!

Funny. I really meant more photos of the build, actually.

Just not enough support, to start with the negative. As most of the members associate with me.....

Um...Pardon me for letting this thread lapse...I had been working on getting my OTHER boat ready enough to use on my vacation...which I just got back from early this morning. I will be continuing the build although at a leisurely pace and will probably work to get it finished by next spring. My other boat...although I used it on holiday needs considerable work before it is finished. I have found a few things that will need to be slightly re-engineered and much that needs filling and finishing. This will probably take most of the time I have available in the remaining warm months. Starting tonight I go back to 7 day work weeks (Some people have to work a LOT to get by) with very little time to spend on boat building. Any time I work on it I will post a progress report. I hope to do something with it at least once or twice a month. Thanks for your patience and support...and {OTHER} comments.

Reverted back to plan A and used the narrower, thicker pieces for the outer wales. Glued the SB side yesterday and the Port side this morning before taking the dog for a swim. Pictures later as it is bed time for this Bonzo.

Update but nothing really worthy of posting pictures... received my 2.5oz glass and epoxy order and glassed the inside bottom. I spent some other time working on something which I will keep to myself for now but it is part of the boat and should be interesting. It has been murderously humid and raining lately and I just haven't had the energy to work on it for the past week to ten days. Tomorrow it should be dryer and I managed to get the lawn mowed today after 2 weeks of growth so I really have no excuses not to put in an hour or so of doing something with it. I just might get it splashed if not completely finished before the water gets hard around here.

We are waiting patiently. Even if it snows.
