Talking of dumb questions,-- heres one.

Why the paranoia about the wood getting wet--they build boats from wood dont they.

Didnt they bring up the Mary Rose from the bottom after being there 300 years.
Put salt in the water or bleach.

And here is the dumb part 2

Most people make fountains out of cement---I always do.

Water proofing

Hi,
I would use Epiglass Everdure thinned by 25% with Epiglass thinners ... Everdure is a two pot epoxy .... with the above mixture it makes the "brew" thinner and it soaks in real fine, just keep brushing on coats until the wood will not take anymore with special attention to the end grain... this is a great product and dries almost clear...

Cheers,

Geedee70

Hey, I know-- why not just replace the water in the fountain with wood preservative?

Sounds like CPES (Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer).

I thought about suggesting this my self but, thought it to be a bit costly for a fountian...... but, then again, I'd do it !!!

So what about the fish ? Will this fountian be used with fish ?

Next year, I intend to do a backyard pond with a fountian of some sort. I will have fish in my pond. I will, no doubt, do the fountian home made (just to be creative).

You could use plastic fish.

It would be cruel any way to keep a fish in a fountain. The fish would get sick and throw up if it was going through the pump and out the jet all the time.

I have seen clockwork fish that could be just as effective.

I suppose it would be time consuming to keep winding the fish up, but that better than writing on forums or reading books.

And --you would only need to wind up the fish if you had guests. But you could use it as an excuse to get away from the boring conversation. You could say "excuse me I have to wind up the fish"
