WARNING West Marine oil absorbent bags??

I am not certain what they are but the thing is to drop in the bilge and remove oil from the bilge.
DON'T LEAVE THEM IN THE BILGE AND GO TO SEA.
I found one in my bilge or to be moor accurate blocking three bilge pumps?
I was in bad weather for 4 days and had laid a hull for 3 the bag had broken releasing small bits of mush,
It was all over the bilge and in bad weather or even in good how do you get rid of it.
I was lucky i got away with fitting tall fine mesh cages on my pumps>
