Angel, I see your rudder idea as a great solution to a situation I encountered a couple of weeks ago. I was navigating the Hillsborough River using only the trolling motor and the stern was swinging quite a bit with every little turn of the troller at the bow. Fortunately the river was fairly placid with only a few gusts and few boats were out and about. I should have tightened the outboard steering stiffness lever but a passenger had moved to my tiller seat so I did not bother as we only had a short way to go.

My next task is to make some sort of brackets to hold the oars out of the way in exposed storage. Perhaps some sort of hooks will do. Any ideas or recommendations out there are?

No, I want to keep it inboard. I have an idea that should work. I will address the problem after I rebuilt the side walls of my Land Yacht.

IMG_20170504_150144442~2.jpg trailer box.PNG The teardrop trailer is no more. Now to rebuild it from the floor up so I can get back to improving the skiff.

Oops! We are not going to rebuild the teardrop so can get back to skiff improvements sooner. It is just minor stuff so I will only post it if I think it may be interesting.

The skiff will be upgraded to a 20 hp Honda with helm replacing tiller steering. More news to come.

Thanks to Dangar Marine on You Tube for providing the instructional videos.

    This will hold the helm.

After the new outboard is installed I will move switches, gauges etc. to the new helm.

After I have it all working the way I want, I will redesign the helm to lighten the weight and make it more aesthetic.

Cover the existing helm box thingie with clear packaging tape, after stripping the hardware off. Lay, 2 - 3 layers of 1208 over, then finish with a layer or two of finishing cloth (6 ounce). Do this all in one shot, so you can use some mylar over the outside to make finishing easy. Bond a couple pieces of aluminum tubing into the corners and for the cross supports, then call it a day. Light, waterproof, can carry a bond for electrical convenience, isn't going to rot, etc., etc., etc.

Thanks, PAR, for the good advice. I have a good quantity of 10 oz woven glass that is adequate for several layers. I can sheath the whole thing in poly film which also doesn't stick, then glass over that. It should pop right off. That will be a good winter project.

Of course the shape might change entirely to enhance utility.
