Swmbo wants a sailboat. Maybe it will fit on the same lift if it is not too beamy?

You can have one boat or many, but never just two.- A. Onassis

It just might. I will have to study it further. Thanks, Angel. :)

I think to have the daggerboard off center is OK to gain space in the middle of this small boat.

The board will now have a good and a bad tack, just like the lug sail, the latter caused by the mast.

But I think the differences between the good and the bad tack will be very slim, and the gained space in the middle of the cabin is a good trade off for it.

I do think however that the off center ballast (which is in the daggerboard tip) needs some compensation, maybe put the battery and the water tank on the opposite side.

I'm sure Chris has thought of a solution for this, but it has not been included in the short blog post about the concept.

Build a good hatch, here's an idea for a sealable sliding hatch, see post #229 of Manie's TEN.

If seriously considering a sailboat please start a thread about it, so we can discus it on topic with the input of others.

    Good Luck !

    Stay safe, Angel.
I was thinking leeboards after the Dutch fashion might be a good way to go.

With a centerboard the well support would provide seating.

You could build that from ODAY bow. about 6 or 7 feet remains. About 5 ft beam at cutoff.

Couldn't bear to throw away this shapely bow with fine entrance.

Find another ODAY bow and assemble a double ender!

    Thanks Hoyt [IMG]

I live and work in a small city in the Netherlands most of the time, so I'm pretty safe, but the whole situation sure hurts . . :(

Look up the plans of Iain Oughtred for nice DIY small double enders . . . :)

    P.S.

Iain Oughtred doesn't have a website of his own I think, most what I find is from home builders and from sales agents who sell some of Iain's plans.

Here's a 28' Block Island Cowhorn for sale, no boards, just a shallow keel to keep her on track . . .

Here plans in brief are in the back of Reuel Parker's book The New Cold-Molded Boatbuilding. She can be build as a open boat or decked plus a cabin and cockpit. The one above has a small cuddy as an intermediate form which is not indicated in the book. It's also possible this one was built from another set of plans.

But we need to know first what size you're looking for, and open boat or decked and cabin etc. etc.

Angels are always (supposed to be) safe.

I was thinking more along the lines of a cat sitting both sides on that lift...
