sand blasting wood

Another detail...
It took me 50$ of chemical and 8 hours to do 2 sq meters on the smooth exterior..The interior with all the narrow spaced frames is depressing me..

And yes a heat gun works...better and faster than the stripper...but still looooong..

PAR is right. This job could be done quickly with modern chemical strippers, then all washed out with a hose.

$50 and 8 hours for 2 sq M sounds like a lousy trade. Maybe the wrong product for the particular paint (Awlgrip?) that is on the outside of your vessel. Try a different chemistry. Stripping paint is the absolute worst part of owning a wooden boat, but must be done once in a while.

Evapo-Rust is the brand I use Bataan, but there are several available, all work the same.

Chemical strippers come in two varieties, retail and a commercial version. The retail products will not kill little Johnny if he drinks some, though he'll get sick as hell, but the commercial versions will. I suspect the retail version is just a simple dilution of the commercial version sold at a higher price (a retailer's dream product, less for more).

Call around to furniture restorers and see if you can get them to offer the brand they use. You may even be able to buy some from them. The commercial versions are so far superior to the retail versions, that the seemly difficult task will become easy. I have some stuff that I use in a garden sprayer. I lather the part up and literally watch the finish run right off. Of course it's not available the the general public, but it's effective and neutralized with water. I'm not sure what's available in Switzerland, but there has to be a similar product(s) available.

If using a chemical stripper, you can pretty much guarantee it'll screw up the varnish and possably stain the wood. The same products that are in paint are in varnish, so it's just as vulnerable to the stripper. Masking can help, but invariably the taped off areas permit some seepage and you can expect some finish damage in other areas. It's the nature of the beast.

Welcome aboard Neal.
