Rotten door bottom

The bottom of my mahagony door is rotted and needs replacing. I am wondering if I can replace it with a piece of hard plastic of some kind. The bottom about 1 1/2 will need replacing. I wondered if I can get a piece of hard plastic in a long rectangular form and screw it in place, paint it, seal the meeting surface with some type of bondo. I dont really want to put wood back on there as Im afraid it will rot off again.

Does this sound good, bad ? Im not real wood savy and would appreciate advice?

If the door encounters water on a regular basis just cut it off even to the waterline and seal it at the cut with whatever you have(epoxy, polyester resin, varnish). If a "salon door" is not feasible it sounds like you already have a plan.

Nice door, save it by putting a door bottom on. Pemcko makes a door bottom that comes up 3" an another that comes up 1 1/8. I have two doors to door and have been surfing to find ideas.
