Redecking Pontoon Boat

Our community recently purchased a 1984 24 ft pontoon to convert to a floating platform/observation deck to install adjacent to our dock. We removed the carpet and the deck is weathered and cracked. Can we cover it with 5/4 decking boards so it has the same appearance as our dock? Do we need to provide a 2 x 4 spacer between the old pywood and the decking boards?

What are your thoughts of using ACX treated plywood for this application?

Yes, you can install those planks on the pontoon boat. An air gap is a good idea, between the plywood deck and the new decking material. Instead of 2x4's use 1x2's to save weight and money. Without this gap, moisture will collect between the plywood and new 5/4's stuff and rot will be the eventual result.

If replacing the old decking with new, PT plywood is a good choice. PT solid lumber (the 5/4's stock you mentioned) is also a good idea and both can be treated as the rest of your decking is.
