An 18' runabout... what else can you tell us about your project. Who's design is it ? Tell us about the boat & it's construction

The boat was designed by Keith Lawrence and to my knowledge this is the first time this design has been built. If anyone is aware of someone else building this boat, please let me know.

If anyone knows Keith Lawrence, forward this thread to him and let him know his design is being built.

The boat will be built of mahogany frames and stringers with plywood planking. The bottom planking will be glassed and painted (probably black) and the sides with have a veneer of mahogany finished bright. The deck will have a plywood sub deck and a mahogany veneer finished in a classic Chris Craft style.

Power will be an outboard of 115hp. While the boat could handle up to about 140 hp, I believe the 115 will deliver a good mix of economy and performance.

This is the third boat that I have built, the first being an 8’ rowboat; Nymph designed by Harold Payson.

The second was a Glen-L Rebel, which I still have. It’s build with mahogany frames, white oak stringers and finished with a mahogany veneer. My new boat will be finished in a similar way, but with more attention to detail.

This boat is for sale if anyone is interested. $4500 includes boat, motor and trailer. Other items include GPS/Sonar, bimini top and extra props. I’ll even deliver it within 400 miles of Lafayette, Louisiana.

Here's a 19 ft runabout, '53 Chris Craft Holiday. That deep red you're looking for under 12 coats. 1500 bungs replaced, nose, rear deck replaced on this job. You cannot compare with that look!

Nope. My last project, for a guy down the road. I prefer sail. I don't think I could deal with all that varnish! I varnish spars and a few other things, and that's enough. This is my humble little boat...

The topside planking and deck will be Marine Ply with a Mahogany veener. The bottom will be marine ply with fiber glass and paint (probably black).

Yeah, the planks looked too wide for solid stock. A lot harder to get a bright finish with ply, I guess. Accuracy! Must be a very time consuming job. Especially scarfing or even butting with backing blocks. The Chris Craft above is not Honduras. It's Phillipine. For a lot of years they couldn't get/afford Honduras. The Phillipine lasted well, and with a paste stain it looks, well, like the picture. I say this because you will see a difference in price between the two, especially for sliced veneers. Phillipine, sliced, will be indistiguishable from Honduras.

The boat's a one-off, I think, Rusty. A catboat, yes, but converting to sloop with sprit and mast relocation 10" back. The underbody is sort of Bahamian, but without the wineglass sections aft. No centerboard, draws 22" and is 15 ft long. Displacement, maybe 1000#. Wonderful sailer, not bad to windward, best in rough water and windy. Full keel, lead ballast.
The hull is fiberglass, but the rest is traditional wood, right down to the deadeyes and lanyards, mast hoops, and leather boom jaws.
I think someone once put together everything they liked about various designs and used an existing boat for the basic plug, cause it seems to be hand faired on the outside.
