our first boat

hi... me and my friend are thinking of building a small boat that would be big enough to handle 4 people and be able to sail in the sea with it (about 2 km from the shore) so i thought of posting a question here to see if someone can help me figure out what would be the ideal size for this kind of boat and also if you guys can project an average price range for the materials i need

Shalom Eric, I assume that you are just wanting to sail for fun for 4 adults for a few hours at most, then come back to shore. Israel manufactures very good quality Gaboon marine plywood, and I would use this in a stitch and glue construction. This uses a minumum of materials and is probably the simplest construction method.
Probably a 5 metre long sailboat with about 15 square metre of sail would work quite well. Building the hull might be around half the cost and the aluminium mast and sails the other 50%.
If you price out the cost of say 6 sheets of 6mm thick marine ply, 4 litres of marine grade epoxy resin, fibreglass tape 50 metres and extra fibreglass woven fabric, plus the cost of plans. Add say another 30% for other materials and some basic hull fittings, you will be close.
Double this to include all the sail and rigging costs, if you shop carefully and do some of the work yourself, and you will somewhere near the total.
Then consider if you need a trailer to transport the boat to the water.
