Newfoundland fisherman's Launch? hi! Does someone here recognize this type of boat? The name on the model says "Newfoundland Fisherman's Launch, circa 1890". Any idea where I can find more info on this type of boats, plans or books? Thanks for any tips. Best regards Mohan

"A skiff is generally considered to be a vessel of up to 20 tons." Probably 20 ft, instead of 20 tons http://www.eastwaters.com/wintertonbb.htm Nice boats! ![]()

No, 20 tons is correct. In Newfoundland terminology, skiff referred to small open boats with keels. There is a "Newfoundland Trap Skiff" design distributed by Duck Trap Boats that is a lovely boat, but is very small and delicate compared to the working skiffs of Newfoundland. I have personal experience with a "skiff" that was 40 feet LOA and powered by an 80-hp diesel. Below is a photo of a typical Newfoundland trap skiff, probably around 24 feet LOA: ![]()
