My boat

My boat - built first frame today.
36/63mm pine frames, 18mm ply doublers 18" wide,
1/2 ply sheet planking,
6ft beam at chine, 8ft at deak.
these are the two main bulkheads, well half bulkheads, upto 6" above chine, so boat will be open plan.
beam will be a little wider between these two sections
(I had a 22' kestrel (Before I got married!) that was clostrphobic due to low cain and two! internal bulkeads.)
6ft from boat and 6ft from stern,
20ft lwl,
24' overall length.
7 frames and transom,
2' centers in midde of boat and 3ft center at ends.
2 longditudinals (what ever they are called!) between keel and chine - 30mm x 36mm section.
Keel (int) will be 3" x 6" flat between bulkheads and on edge from bulkhead to stem ,to transom. overlapping by 1'.
Transom will be 6ft at deck, 5ft at chine, 6" below chine.
Keel (ext) will be 8' x 1' x 6" steel scrap / reinforcing rod / concrete.
Coachroof will be 2ft high approx giving 6ft plus head room.
Will be full width of boat,
Will extend 3ft beyond front bulkhead, with large forward hatch, for waterways licence.
Mast will be deck stepped with 2" pipe strut to keel, with internal tabernacle. (Has no one tried this or am I barkng up wrong tree?!) Will of course be bolted to deck once upright.
7ft cockpit, well actually no cockpit. just after deck. Like great ocean yachts. Robin Knox Johnton - Shullui!, Badger dory etc.
Would draw it but don't have autocad.
will sail on Leeds - liverpool canal, first to get it to sea!
See woodern boat NZ, Gragley, caigue, for inspiration.
But with many mods
Yours James

Keel

Will post pics of main bulkheads
Poss getting keel timbers this week. 6" x 3",
If I keep the ten pounds in pocket until wednsday!
Boat building on budget!
Any idea what is ideal proportion of concrete to scrap streel in ballast keel?
Will use keel bolts and reinforcing rod, but how much scrap steel as well.
I also have angle steel, I could use on corner edges but am worried about delamination of concrete?
Will 8 1/2" bolts be enough for 700lbs / 300kg keel. want to keel it simple!
8' long, 1' deep, 8" wide.
Yours James
