| You would get that exact info from the Mirror Association in your area, but from memory on my mirror some years ago it was 5 mm (3/16") Anything less would be a danger of putting a foot through it I suppose |

| is the front piece it braced? i am just about finished with the boat. i put about 1/4 inch mahogany on the front and it seems ok. the boat belongs to the sea scouts and i am working on it because i am a member. it was in bad condition. the wood on the bow and stern was rotten and so was some of the rubrail. i replaced the wood and then had to strip the paint completely because all of the paint was flaking off. i re-fiberglassed all of the corners because it was falling off. i put two coats of primer and about five coats of HMG paint on it. the inside was not in as bad condition but i had to make a new centerboard because the original had snapped in half. i sanded it down and re fiberglassed the bad spots. i put about five coats of HMG varnish on and it shines like new! i took the hardware like the hooks and rudder hangers and shined them up. i replaced the piece that goes on the front and made the centerboard and the reinforcing plate that goes on the bow all with mahogany plywood. the boat looks very nice now and i am amazed with how it turned out because this is my first boat. my next boat that i get is an Optimist Pram from the seascouts that i get to keep. |
