A little eye candy

This weekend was the Texas Kayak Fisherman wooden boat roundup.

My boat isnt finished but was close enough to take and paddle

There were sof , foam yaks, full stripers , s@g , and SS@G boats . If you wanted to paddle one just ask and take off. we had a blast

Very nice, Tx! The lack of cockpit rings still messes with my head, but I see you're not alone in that.

I think it goes back to the location sensitive thing. Its hot here , hot water ,I might be paddling in a 105 degree weather like last year.
You have the cold wet weather and cold water.
I notice that most of the yaks here are going to a mix of canoe ,big open cockpits, easy in and easy out . Closed decks for water tight storage ,a low profile to help in the wind.

Very few folks are into rolling here.

Ron,

Where are you at in Texas?

How do I get in touch with the "Texas Kayak Fishermen" organization, do they get together often like you showed?

Stunning Boats

If I manage to ever build a boat of this quality and beauty, it goes into the den as a trophy

Oh, heavens, NO!!!!!!

It goes in the water!

You'll have to make your entries and exits quick or under the cover of darkness though. All of that exposed wood in a boat is a huge people magnet. If they see you , you'll be mobbed and be trapped or hours answering questions like: How long did it take to built it? What kind of wood did you use? etc. etc. etc.

A collection of home built small craft is worthy of true celebration. While we are celebrating may I add that I dont like bright finished craft.

Paint please. Beautiful shapes need colour. I prefer white and a green shear on beautifully formed craft.

Michael,

Congratulations on being relatively unique. I have always believed the Woodenboat forum was a hotbed of bright finished people.

I have generally collapsed to paint because I am not very good at bright. And I really hate varnish, not being one of the old timers who knows everything about it.

Happy new years.

I checked on the website and was quite interested in the boats. Obviously customised for the purpose, but other more traditional kayaks there also. I will be interested to correspond with some of the builders.

The group meeting (messabout) at Inks Lake in central Texas was something I had heard about but not known who sponsored.

I have a brother in law who just cannot abide being in a sit inside kayak, I might approach him about one of the open top boats shown. These are obviously for lakes or mild rivers where being filled from a wave is not a real consideration.

Nice looking workmanship, including a sailing trimaran kayak in work.

Hoytedow,

How do you know about these guys, are you from Texas when you are not "Between the Gulf and the Atlantic"?
