I wanna build a kayak.

Hello all this is my first post I have always loved boats and I have recently refinished an old fiberglass jon boat of my grandpa's. It looks like crap but It floats. Anyway I have decided I want a kayak to take to small ponds and fish as well as a local lake I go to almost every weekend.

I found some free plans that I am thinking about using heres a link to basically what I found,http://www.jemwatercraft.com/proddet...p?prod=Laker13.

My question is, where do I start in building this?
I should also add I dont know much about boat terminology so any advice with that would be great.

Thanks,

Scott

This is a good place to look, too: http://www.greenval.com/index.html . All boats designed by John Winters, who definitely knows his job.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually think Im going to try something smaller/cheaper to see if I even enjoy boat building. I found plans for a mouse boat I want to try.

Kayak Building Resources

There are lots of different plans and methods of kayak building. I just finished a Guillimot 14' Sea Kayak made from cedar strips. It was time consuming but satisfying in the end. I would reccomend a stitch-and-glue version. It goes together much faster than the strip-built. You can check out my recent post in this sub-forum.

Also look into http://www.guillemot-kayaks.com/guillemot/

Chesapeake Light Craft

I can link you to my build pics on Snapfish if you want.

Good Luck!
