How to start a library

Thanks in large part to advise from this forum, my first built is complete. I enjoyed the experience enough to try another build next winter. I am hoping some of you could tell me with a practical question. what would be the three books you would buy first to start your personal boat building library? There are a lot of books out there, and some must be better than others. This would be a great help. Thanks

Nigel Calders "Boatowners Mechanical and Electrical Manual"
Skeen's "Elements of Yacht Design"
Nicholson's book, I cannot think of the title, someone else will fill that in for me.

Stewart's "Boatbuilding", Chapelle's "Boatbuilding" and "Gougeon Brothers on Boat Construction"

There are many others, but these three will provide a fair coverage of old and new techniques employed in building boats.

All good choices: I would add to that George Buehler's, Buehlers Backyard Boat Building and Modern Boatbuilding by Edwin Monk. That's probably
Build Your Own Boat: Building and Fittting Out For Sail or Power by Ian Nicholson

Go to my links page; http://newboatbuilders.com/pages/links.html. About half the way down the page on the left is a section Books of Interest to Boatbuilders. At the bottom of the page is a bibliography with a lot more.

I hav'nt actually read these books but I would if I was in your shoes.

Gardening for the enthusiast

Why not to buy a boat.

Wising up after mental relapse

Maybe not in that order, possible the 2nd one first. Oh no maybe the 3rd one first.

I like all those references Frosty
But I would have to have a real mental relapse to get into gardening
I'm getting my old 26' Owens ready to launch next month, and it's way too late to take those good words of wisdom.
I get advice from a friend, Jan Gougeon, who likely doesn't get into gardening either.

Thanks for the book suggestions, These will be the ones I look for first. Manie, I would not dare post a picture of my build on this forum. Although I am thrilled with the way my skiff came out, it would pale in comparison to the scope and craftsmanship of projects I have seen posted here. I'll leave the pictures to the craftsmen.

crosscut,

It is horses for courses mate, you must have been happy with what you did when you did it.

My last yacht was a real show pony, but I can easily see the versatility of a more commercial sort of vessel, be proud of what you do, do it right once and the rest all falls into place.
